I usually do a reboot once a day or every other day just to clear out "stuff" (cache). I guess that is a holdover from my 5 years as a Android phone user.

I wondering if it would be an advantage to have a routine restart, say every few days instead of waiting for something to not work properly to force you to do so.
On my 9700 I had one of those apps that allowed me to reboot the phone which I found I had to do every couple of days.

...I don't think that I have ever rebooted any of my BB10 phones (Z10, Q10, and Z30) since they were purchased other than software updates and the reboot was required...the Z10 was in use from launch until last April when I got the Z30...still use it here and there though...the Q10 has been in service since it's launch...I had a loose batter issue that obviously caused reboots...but I have corrected that and I don't voluntarily reboot it either...and my Z30 has been going for almost a year now with only software update reboots...

I never need to reset my phone..

Admittedly I do make the battery totally drain every 2 weeks.

Is it being suggested that not frequently restarting is seen a beneficial?
I've always found that occasionally restarting a computer is beneficial. Why wouldn't that apply to phones?

Not often. Only when updating the OS or to debug a problem. It's great the OS boots in less than a minute, unlike on the PlayBook.

I used to restart quite often on BBOS7, just to install software. Now, I have to do that with MacOS X, which is completely puzzling to me since it's a desktop OS and I update my GNU/Linux box everyday without having to restart. Seems like a step back.

Typically, I turn it off for a night and let it rest once every 3 weeks or so.

But I have a cache cleaner and regularly clear CB and browser cache.

My Verizon Classic has to be restarted every 2-4 days because text messages eventually get stuck sending. I suspect it's because I am not in good reception and between all of the network switching and the home extender next door to me that connects once in a while it probably gets confused...
