    Hi Everyone,

I just bought a "New In Box" Classic off of eBay to replace my dying HP Pre3. I have very poor signal at my home but my Pre3 was able to cope with 1 bar coming and going when indoors. The Classic just shows a red "X" in the house and flip flops between "SOS" and "AIRVOICE WIRELESS" (my carrier) when outdoors. (My Pre3 give 2-3 bars outdoors.) This is my first BlackBerry so I am looking for feedback on whether this might be normal. I just assumed that since the Classic is a bit newer than the Pre3, it would have a better radio.

    Thanks for the insight.

Not normal. What variant is the Classic? You can find it in settings>about. Might want to check whatever variant you have is even supported on AirVoce, which is just an AT&T MVNO - https://forums.crackberry.com/blackb...encies-977803/

    Hi Bla1ze,

    Thanks for the reply.

The model number is SQC100-4. I did not know there were so many variants. I got this one because it was listed as an unlocked AT&T unit so I assumed it would work with AirVoice.

Interesting as my classic gets signal in remote areas. We have compared this using the same sim in a key1 and three different apple phones yet the old classic still works just fine.. maybe it is frying my brain but as I do live in a remote area and my carrier does not support WiFi calling for the k1 I still use the classic and since it has had a new battery it is brilliant... still feels good in the hand

Change network mode to 2G if you're indoors. 4G/3G if you're outside.

I live in a dead spot. My Pre3 was no good at voice calls from my home, but was usually able to semi-reliably do text messaging.

I just noticed when I go outside and leave the BB Classic on my picnic table it shows 2 bars. When I hold it the signal completely disappears. (That's a bit disappointing.)

I do not have options for changing network modes with my AirVoice SIM. I have an old TracFone SIM and that one allows me to change modes, but those options don't exist when I put in my AirVoice SIM. Changing from 4G to 3G doesn't seem to make any difference on my TracFone SIM. (2G no longer exists in my area.)

As others have said, the Classic's reception is quite good. I would suspect either something is wrong with your device or there's a carrier incompatibility. The radio in mind performs as good or better than other phones I've had.

I use the Verizon model on AT&T. My signal has been fantastic, always full bars, even on the road! Better than my S7 Edge by at least 1 bar when side by side.

It's fine. Whether or not your service provider or another party is filtering your connection I'm not sure.
For WiFi try a traceroute to google.com or another site and see how fast it is. Its in WiFi Settings
