Has the OP left the building for good?
You will be able to buy the classic unlocked ready for AT&T, probably on introduction, as far as subsidized from ATT nobody knows yet but it is probably safe to assume they will be carrying it.

I think the reason the classic has the specs that it does is because Blackberry needed to produce the Classic quickly, I believe Chen announced it in Feb of this year, and they also need to be able sale it at a low price to get current BBOS users to switch over to BB10. Remember that for those that are switching to a BB10 device, in most cases they are going to have to switch to higher cost data plans. Since the classic 2 is already in planning, expect better specs on that device and the classic 1 becomes your official lower tier device (think q5/curve) upon the release of the Classic 2 (if it takes place next year).
Blackberry has to be able to prove to carriers that the Blackberry devices are worth selling and that the company is stable. I like the fact that it seems that Blackberry is making a non-camera option for the Classic and not resting on software management to disable the camera. Believe it are not there is market out there for people that need a smartphone, but can not have a physical camera on the phone.
Thanks for the reply!
I am aware of the differences between 10.3.1 and 10.3; however I was more interested to know if the trackpad would bring something unique to classic like quick menus when pressing the bb button in an app like on bold. These quick menus are very useful and effective.
More Q's...
Can you zoom in and out with the keyboard in Maps and Browser?
Did you get a manual or pdf file with your Classic? If so, can you share it?
The latest rumor is that AT&T will not carry the Classic.
Passport = AT&T exclusive in the U.S.
Classic = Verizon exclusive in the U.S.
Fortunately for AT&T (and all GSM) customers you can buy the full priced and unlocked GSM version from shopblackberry or from some other retailer. The only thing that is in question is whether or not the unlocked version will support AT&T's 4G. I strongly suspect it will, but these days you just can't be sure of anything.
Hi Ruslan,
many many thanks for all your answers!
I wanted to buy the Passport while waiting for the Classic, but the PP is out of stock everywhere (as i'm looking for the AZERTY version) and your infos made me want the Classic even more, so i guess i'll hold on! ;)
I have one question please, regarding the trackpad, and the cursor behavior in the calendar:
While in week view, can you hold shift and drag the cursor to create an entry (longer, obviously, than the default "meeting duration" from the calendar settings, for example) ? just like in BB legacy OS.
It always killed me to see how the calendar entries are slow to input with any touchscreen device (except on the older BB's of course)...
Many thanks in advance!
No 3 is huge. Its difficult to block text on Q10.

It's a huge nuisance.

Totally agree. Mega Dittos.

Exactly. Especially on travel days.

Hi Ruslan,
There's one more question: I heard that the Passport does NOT support headphones with volume control (and mute button) like the Q10 did. What?s with the Classic? I fear they aren't supported here either!?
It does, it's just a software thing. My apple headphones worked perfect on 10.2, but when upgraded to 10.3, the buttons sometimes don't respond.
Hello Ruslan
Thank you for all the info you've given us. Have you managed to try out the camera yet?
Hey Ruslan, question. Where did you go? Did the BlackBerry police get you?

Thanks and ... arrrgh: I hope software thingcan be replaced with software bug, meaning it will be fixed in the next versions of the OS and not added (removed?) by purpose.
Great thread thanks R!!!
Very insightful on tupcoming BlackBerry Classic... looking forward to the launch!!!

Hi guys, I'm back, had a rough weekend, so I couldn't reply to your questions and PMs ;)

WELCOME back!! :) And THANKS, in advance. :)
1) Currently there's no word prediction on Classic, you just type the words manually, but I wouldn't be afraid about that, I bet they add the regular 3 rows of predicted words to the bottom of the display just like on Q10. If you love the word swiping from the Z10 just like me, I'd recommend getting the Passport, where it is possible on the hardware keyboard.

3+4) In the Hub it's quite complicated to do this using shift+trackpad especially when you want to select less then 2 messages at once, otherwise you can shift-select, then release shift, move elsewhere using scrollbar and again hold shift to select a few other messages. But I think it might be enhanced in future uptades since in File Manager you can select single files by holding shift and pressing the trackpad, in hub this leads to opening the items, but I think the behavior will be the same in the coming OS versions.

1) Not right away. You can take a picture, then open it via the thumbnail in the left bottom corner, press the BlackBerry button to open menu and then choose Properties to rename the picture.
2) This is a software-related question. You can't subscribe to podcasts natively like on the Bold, where you've had a Podcast app, but you can of course once you install any of the many podcast apps from BlackBerry World or even Amazon/Snap.
3) Again - software question, it's not Classic-specific, all the features depend on OS build. No, you won't find the native Password Keeper in Classic, but you can download the native one from BlackBerry when you find it in the BB World, just like on current devices.
The cursor can not be captured on a screenshot, but here's a photo.

Yes and Yes, tested with both Twitter and Instagram
1) You can move the cursor with trackpad and select text using Shift+trackpad
2) Correct, it's not configurable, at least not yet, who knows, BB might add the option later.
Hard to tell as I've only been using the Q10 for 2 weeks to write a review while owning a Z10 as my weapon of choice. But if I had a Q10, I would probably upgrade to Classic. I was also disappointed when the specs leaked out, but I never had hardware related lags on Q10 or Z10 (only software ones on a few leaks), so I think the hardware is still sufficient. The only difference I can see on Passport is quicker Android apps loading and installing, otherwise everything is as quick on both my Z10 and the Classic. The trackpad and the tools belt is a very useful add-on + the display got bigger and a lot sharper, so according to the price speculations I would probably upgrade. Well also I get bored after some time with the same phone, so I have this need to treat myself to a new toy :D
