Based on history how frequently can we expect official OS updates will be released?

Basically, there is no "pattern" to the releases, it's when they feel they need to get them out.
Just keep hitting that "Check for Updates" button..........
the next "drop" is due out in a few weeks.....

I can't predict the future, but in the two years since the launch of bb10, we have had 5 official major updates to those launch devices.

We've had 10.1, 10.2, 10.2MR, 10.2.1, and now we are just about to get 10.3.1.

We have had minor updates in between as well.

4 of these 5 updates were released in the first year. Software support has changed significantly for the worse since John Chen is in charge.

Do you know what improvements or new features are expected in 10.3.1?

You're already on 10.3.1 with the Classic. I don't understand what you're asking.

To be fair, though, BB10 is a new OS and the first year startup is going to require frequent updates. The OS now has seen some stability at least and therefore updates could be expected to be fewer IMHO. During the first year, and in particular, with the launch of the z10 the young OS was brutal and contributed heavily to the negative consumer response.

Sorry I was confused. I thought a new update was coming for the Classic.

I would expect maybe 2 updates a year that are actually bringing new functions and such. Anymore than that and just take that is a bonus

One of the things that BB 10 users should know is that the last 15 months that John Chen has been CEO that Blackberry has been super busy building up a whole portfolio of other products and services.

Items like BES12, eBBM services, BB Classic and Passport + Z3 have been very time consuming.

On several occasions John Chen had mentioned in interviews that the Classic was scheduled for November release but he was hoping to have it come out sooner. I suspect the OS revisions to bring the trackpad function back must have been a larger task than a lot of people think.

If the device side of the business improves over the next several quarters I suspect that more employee attention will be diverted to building the OS and device portfolio. If the device business shows some declines or doesn't grow/make money then more attention will be paid to the "services" side of the new and improved Blackberry.
