I often deal with .cfg files or .fx files which are nothing but simple .txt files.

I don't get an option to Open With with those extensions.

    Is there a work around?

If you long press the file in File Manger, you do not get a Open In dialog?

Nope. Nor does menu button show anything (usually the same thing as long tap press).

Can't rename the extension either, can only rename the file name itself.

If you really need to edit it on BB, you could always just download RAR from google play/snap, etc
It will allow you to edit the file extension. But is that really necessary to do from a phone?

For the rename, do that within:
    • Select/long press the file, choose Properties.
    • Tap Menu, choose Rename.
    • You should be able to change the extension from there.

That way is different from File/Menu/Rename.

Still, it is odd you don't have an Open In option.... if you do the same to a known file type, like PDF or TXT, do you get a Open In dialog?

Nope. When the extension is renamed in properties it turns into readme.txt.cfg instead of the original readme.cfg

Yes, I get the Open In option when I select known file extension types.

Edit: Perhaps rename doesn't work cause the file is on OneDrive. Will put a file on SD card and see what happens.

Edit2: Yes, renaming extension on SD card does work, can now open it as a .txt file with ext .txt

Edit3: Still can't Open in the file while its on the SD card in .cfg format though.

Ahh... the off-device-storage does limit accessibility to the file fully.
Well, atleast you have a partial fix by downloading and renaming.
