Do we really know any specs on the classic yet? So far all I see is that it has a 3.5 inch screen but I get conflicting reports on the resolution and the CPU etc.

Or perhaps BlackBerry is trying to decide?

Nothing official, although the consensus seems to be Z30 spec.

This official blog post seems to indicate 720x720 for sure:

The Return of the Classic | BlackBerry Developer Blog

Here's my speculative list(I'm eager about it and interested in what it will have):

720x720 3.5" inch LCD screen: Probable (via devblog post)
Slimport video out: Probable (via pictures not showing any microHDMI out)
    Processor: ? conflicting reports (I'm hoping the Z30's 1.7 S4 Pro Snapdragon at least. Q10/Z10 have 1.5 S4 Plus - https://www.qualcomm.com/products/sn...blackberry-z30
RAM: ? ( I bet 2GB via that's what people seem to be saying)
Camera: ? ( I bet 8Mega rear as that's what people seem to be saying)
USB OTG: I'd assume so since most Z30 and Passport have it
    FM Radio: Why wouldn't it?
Non-removeable battery: Probable (via the pictures of it)
    Paratek antennea: no info
    Stereo speakers: no info
Wireless charging: doubt it as Passport doesn't
Charging contacts: Probably not as picture don't show any

For the love of god, blackberry please add a 10mp or higher camera!

I don't know about the 2mp front shooter on the Z30, but it's probably superior to my Z10.

I'm assuming it's going to be dual core, 1gb of ram. Hope not

So far it looking like this (from leaks and nlog ect) all specs are unofficial and could easily change. I would wait till you hear official specs from BlackBerry. Otherwise you never know for 100% sure.

    720 x 720 ISP LCD
    8mp rear, 2mp front
    3.5" inch screen
    2,515mAh battery
    1.7ghz Dual core
    2GB Ram
    FM Radio
    802.11 a/b/g/n

Those specs would be OK if it was only $400.

In fact, I think it would be best to keep the specs down to keep the price down. It bugs me that it will only be 720x720 but I can understand why it would be.

It will be 2GB of RAM I am sure..to the person that suggested only 1, that is not enough to run bb10.
I am concerned about the battery. It's bigger than the z10, but it needs to have a battery that can last almost as long as two z10 batteries.

I don't mind a dual core if it has a dual core price.
The phone market is maturing. We aren't going to keep seeing more cores and faster speeds at this rate forever.

If the price is low, then dual core is fine.

If you are seeking specs "just to brag to people" then I suggest you walk into a "Android" shop. They supply all the Quad / octa core phones. Where people use 10% of the power.

A 1.7ghz dual core with adreno 320 is by no means a bad phone. My Q5 with a 1.2ghz dual core runs smoothly and I never have any lag. I fully trust BlackBerry that they will provide us with enough power to make the phone run smoothly. I'm with BlackBerry for their easy to use OS and security.

A couple of years ago I was in a Radio Shack and the kid working there was talking about how much it meant to him that he had the phone that had the "highest benchmarks" for him it didn't seem to matter if it had a good is or build quality, just that it was "the fastest phone on the market".
Of course within a few months he would still have a year and a half on his contract without having "the fastest phone".

BlackBerry are BMWs, now muscle cars.

I really don't think you'd be needing too much. It's a Bold-like device with small screen. It has the old style physical keyboard. For me, it indicates that it will be for people who's into a simpler device. With a smaller screen, there's not much of a task for you to make. Documents, file management, messaging. Those are the possible focus of this kind of device. And these doesn't need a power house to run them smoothly. Packing up too much may cause inefficient hardware. Plus it will cost more.

I am something of a power user but I am very interested in the classic. I like the Passport but I miss the send and end keys plus I want one handed use.

I am also on a budget that would allow me to get the classic sooner than a Passport.

I do want decent specs, and I do care about specs but I also know that this is a more practical design. I will still want to multi task a lot. If fact 3.5 is the number I have been wanting to reach to get a usable screen with a keyboard.

I've had 3 z30 and yea the specs are outdated and you can see it. Bb10 is smooth for the most part, but when you're actually doing things you will get lags and slow downs that is so bad and terrible. And don't even say the s5 is supper laggy with the latest specs because it isn't.

Competing with Samsung for consumers will require "bragging rights" numbers. Even if those numbers add NOthing to actual use. We all know it's BS but that's just the nature of some markets. The Classic wont need bleeding edge numbers to achieve consumer acceptance so long as BB has a flagship out there demonstrating that they COULD provide super numbers, if they chose. Shelby's Cobra's proved what Ford COULD do, making it "ok" to own Mustangs and even Pintos or F150s. Shelby's Cobras cost Ford a fortune, but made them a Mint!!

The Passport is proving that BB CAN deliver bleeding edge, when they choose. That flagship assures consumers that any less than bleeding edge specs in the Classic are there by BB's choice, and not because that's just the best they can do.

Classic's priority must be reliability. Choosing the well proven year old Z30 specs is a smart move to assure against unforeseen reliability issues, IMO. Chen's strategy is ingenious, IMO.
