The Twitter, Facebook, Google Drive, and several other apps are better on Google than they are on BB world (if they even exist there). Are there any disadvantages to relying on Play apps, beyond a slightly longer load time? Thanks.

If the app updates to require Google Play Services and/or a version of Android newer than 4.3, you're out of luck.

What happens in that instance: will an error message pop up, or will the app just start bugging out?

    The former, usually.

I've found it preferable to use BB World for apps available there. Those not available, maat be accessed via Amazon App Store or Google Play. The advantage of both Amazon and BB World is the notification of updates.
