    Not that long ago when I was in a page I could hit the "W" key and it took me to my tabs. Now when I hit the exact same key, it opens a new tab.

    Yes, a few keyboard shortcuts have been changed. Exempli gratia, Q opens the tabs menu (it was W, as you pointed out), while W now opens a new tab, and so on. Unfortunately, you cannot change these shortcuts nor there's an official list anywhere on the web: you have to discover it yourself.
