Is there a dark background available on the Classic like my Z30? If so, how do I turn it on?

Nope, different screen tech; the LCD of the classic doesn't need one

Yep, AMOLED screens get the Dark Theme because of the way the pixels emit light, blacks basically turn the pixels off to save battery

In the settings, the BlackBerry Classic has dark background for Calendar (swipe down in calendar mode), Music (black is default) and Text Messages (go to hub, choose settings then text messages). And of course you can download an all black wallpaper.

Baritone I changed the background in text messages as you suggested. It did not change it. It did work in calendar. Thanks for your help

You have to go in and out of the texts a time or two after you change it for it to take effect.

    You're welcome.

I suggest trying again. The text screen looks nice in black:

I realized today that the Contacts screen can also be made dark by swiping down from the top, clicking settings, then swiping right next to Dark Background. So the following screens all can be (or are by default) black:

    1. Calendar
    2. Text Messages
    3. Music
    4. Contacts
    5. Videos
    6. Home Screen (just choose a black wallpaper)

Plus there is some speculation that a black background uses less battery than white or colored (in apps) I can't confirm that though

I think that is only the case with Amoled screens. And the Classic does not have that kind of screen, to my knowledge.
