Brought a Blackberry Classic two days ago. Love the phone, but the battery life is really bad. I'm not able to get through the day without carrying the charger and plugging in every chance I get. I'm trying to figure out what's draining the battery.

The first thing that stands out when I check the CPU monitor is the 'Payment Options' service is using 39% on average. What is this, and can I turn it off?

I'm using Microsoft Active Sync for my work email and I'll admit I get a lot of email, but I didn't think this would drain the battery this quickly? I don't use much else accept text messaging and phone calls. I don't play games or keep up with Facebook, Twitter, etc. So I'm barely a moderate user at best.

I've been using a Blackberry Torch forever and the battery life was the best! Even after 3 plus years with the original battery I could easily get through 24 hours. Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Same problem here buddy. I try to operate on 3G rather than 4G and it saved me additional 2 hours. But as an overall performance the battery is really really bad.

The payment service CPU usage shouldn't be that high. It's certainly not normal. Maybe you can try to edit your payment details?

I think you need more days of waiting to let the phone settle completely

Mine act the same for the first few days. 2 days is too short to tell. After about a week, the battery last me almost a day. And I am a heavy user with 5 e-mails accounts, FB, Tweeter, Instagram, BBM groups, Whatsapps, and a whole other bunch of apps. I'm happy with my Classic so far.

Getting a day with heavy use both phone and email. Better since turning off NFC - no issues other than that.

So you got a new phone, are fiddling with it constantly, and then the battery gets low right?

After the latest update am getting about 48h battery life out of my Classic, compared to 36h before the update.

Ok, switched off ever since NFC, Locations, swipe to wake and the enhanced flip to wake thingies. Also, got no FB etc but 3 email accounts. So, probably not a heavy user...

I have 9 email accounts. 4 work & 5 gmail et al. After a few days it settled down and I now cannot get it to go below 40% before its left on charge at bedtime. Try lowering screen brightness, mine is at about half way.

Great point about screen brightness. It's the 2nd biggest battery eater. Even a little adjustment down will have a huge positive result.

Appreciate all the tips, but still not seeing any improvement in my battery life. Today marks a week since I purchased my Blackberry Classic. I'm only averaging 9 hours on a full charge. The 'payment options' service is still averaging 35% CPU. Currently running Software Release: 10.3.1.841, OS Version: 10.3.1.1298. I May have to return this one.

The payment option service should not even be averaging past 10.... something is seriously wrong.

I can't even find my payment options in th CPU view and it's very low in memory view.
Be careful of the apps, even bb10 ones. I had to uninstall Blaq as it was eating battery and even heating up the phone as well as occasionally freezing. It might be an app.

Problem Solved! This is going to sound too simple, but yesterday I shutdown the phone because it would not communicate with Blackberry Link. Five minutes later I turned the phone on and the 'Payment Options' service that was running at 35% CPU, was down to .04%. Since then my battery life has been great! Its been 18 hours since my last charge, and the battery is reading 68%, with 1 day, 2 hours left!

I don't know why that service's CPU was so high, but I'm glad it's gone. Thanks for all the suggestions and tips. I already liked the phone and now it looks like the battery life is going to be even better than I expected. No doubt for me, the Blackberry Classic is a winner!

Shutting down is always the 1st thing I try. I assumed you would have tried that before or did you and it didn't work?

I did a few restarts a day or two after I got the phone, but the problem always returned . However, that was the first time I did a full shutdown. Maybe the phone needed time to settle or... I read where others suggested shutting down the phone, but that sounded like the same default answer I get from desktop support at work. So I admit I didn't think it would make a difference. As I type this, it's been almost 27 hours since the last charge. The battery is down to 35%. I think I want to see how far this can go before I have to charge it.

So the Classic is indeed maybe a step up when it comes to battery life usage as the Blackberry 9900.

I prefer the premium look of the bold 9900 though, im not a big fan of plastic back cover of the classic.
