I t reminds me of the early days when one could run Windows emulation software for the Macintosh. The two were never really compatible..... Finding .apk files outside the google play store isn't too terribly difficult, but getting them to run correctly is another story. Reaching a Zen moment, I found that if I just jettisoned the play store and ran BB10 apps, it runs much better. For instance, I was happy to find Spotify for BB10 from amazon store. I use that instead of Napster (yes they are still around) so I can text and play music which is all I really wanted. I'm not a "power user",( whatever that is) and so I don't require a lot of fluffy apps. In fact, that's why I like the classic so much compared to let's say my Galaxy edge s7. I always hated the gobbs of bloatware on the samsung that I can't delete on a whim without rooting the phone. The only apps I sort of miss are the starbucks android app and TEAM SNAP for my hockey team both of which won't launch , but It's not a biggy. (debit card works too at starbucks). Of course most banks and credit cards have web access, so you don't really "need" their apps. In any case, I have a computer and KEYone if I really need to check credit cards, bank statements. In fact, if it wasn't for the fact that I can't run LUA hipaa compliant msg. app on my classic, it might have been my daily carry. The only major disadvantage would be the poor camera relative to the KEYone (and it is a big difference) . I was at my son's hockey game last weekend and took a few shots with the classic and thought ,"Why do I like this phone so much? photos look like phone pics from 6 yrs. ago....grainy, underexposed"
So to summarize, for texting and music it's great and it looks way cooler than some curved featureless glass phone. It's the archictectual equivalent of the Empire State Building contrasted with a glass "unbuilding". The Empire State Building is similar to the BB Classic in that it Boasts a beautiful Art Decco lobby, but beyond that stands building with slow elevators, ancient HVAC but a ton of "character"...
