Hi I'm new here. Have had my Classic since 2015, used primarily for email, text, calls & pix. Low app usage. It began having charging issues a week or so ago with constant drain, the battery icon and an occasional notification pop up detecting non blackberry cable (which I think is correct, unsure if it is an official BB one) I found the original package with an official BB USB cable that I've put in now -- but it may be too late. The screen is frozen all day displaying only the logo "Blackberry Classic" --- I cannot turn it on or off or get it to respond to anything. I tried Volume Up / Down + power. Tried plugging into desktop to trickle. Nothing. Tried various wall plugs which appeared to work yesterday with the other old cord, but not today, frozen all day today. It's plugged in with the official cable to a wall plug now...and I am waiting. No card.

The challenge is, I have next to ZERO skills or even verbiage with technology and would need to be hand-held or spoken to like a 6 yr old! What I really would like is if someone could refer me to a BB specialist in the Los Angeles area, if that exists, who might be able to minimally retrieve some data. (biggest concern = photos) I'm Apple on all other devices so the Classic is a stand-alone, and not backed up. (I know... I know...humor me )

I've read forum questions but haven't found any that apply to this specific issue. Hoping someone can find me a support person in LA? Willing to pay just to get photos - and maybe contacts and texts in a perfect world. Willing to recognize it's time for a new phone too.

    Thx!!

Do you have any spare batteries?

I'd try replacing that, along with switching out cables and the power block. Next would be getting the USB port replaced. Beyond those things, next would be running an Autoloader - there are some no wipe options, but if the OS is corrupted, the wipe option is what you really need.

But if the phone is dead.... it dead. Short a forensic lab and thousand of dollars your data is lock in the storage on the phone.

No spare batteries, last night I plugged in with the proper cable and plug from BB in hopes of seeing something different today but the same frozen screen image with Blackberry Classic and no response to any attempts to resuscitate her! I thought this classic didn't have a removable battery but maybe for someone qualified it's doable? Should I call Verizon to see if they have someone on staff? Have photos of my Mom who passed away several months ago in it. Thanks so much for responding.

Verizon doesn't fix phones... Search your area for a phone repair shop.

The battery isn't easy to replace but it's not really hard either.... youtube can show you how. But not really convinced that's your issue, but it is something that you could try.

OK I was at their troubleshooting site last night -verizon- and it seemed they had a staff for that but it's probably just a chat service.. I forgot to mention the data was showing almost full in past weeks as well. What about that Sachesi operation I read about here somewhere? Thanks again!!

thanks dubengeldu! I am so not talented at this kind of thing i decided to try the local phone repair shop who gave it a week of different attempts that failed and pronounced it dead without ability to retrieve data. But....weirdly they returned phone drained and dead-like and in a stubborn denial i plugged it in one last time and... it came on, and battery began charging! Went up to 100% and phone was working like normal after being pronounced dead. This went up and down, battery charge, no charge, i would wiggle cable and it would charge. Foind a data recovery place in Glendale with 5 star reviews where the phone is now!

Since the miracle cure was sporadic thought it best to be safe and get the data i cared about if possible.

Will update when she gets out of surgery.... ever hopeful!

Thanks for the advice all the same.

Make sure your charging port is clean. I have to dig mine out with a needle periodically. The lint and treasure that packed into there did the same thing to me.

As the port wears out you may find you have to keep the cable crooked to one side to charge.

    I miss charging contacts.

Well, this just happened to me again. And I knew to clean out the charging port so it was not that. Battery discharged and then refused to take a charge.

I followed your directions. Don't understand what you mean with the keyboard, with the Classic you just remove the back cover (take out sim/sd cards and start from there) and the battery connector is there with the phillips and torx screws on it. I disconnected it and plugged the USB in and the phone came right to life. While it was displaying the error I reconnected the battery and it started charging.

    Thanks a bunch.

Hope this helps one of the remaining 17 Classic users.
