What if it's a totally new BBOS, as such in look and feel. Perhaps the new os will have all features, look and feel of BBOS, but is remade on BB10 platform? I would buy it in a heart beat.

^this and it'd take like a year to build a completely new os JUST for one device

Not possible. BBOS is outdated, and ready for the trash bin. BB10.3.1 will utilize special features to take advantage of the Classic Design. And when people use it, they will react as WOW. AHH.

I don't think It'll be the same. Just like the 10.0 was originally made for Z10 that run run on Q10 and Z30. OS are supposed to be usable on all devices. So it's not enough to say that it won't be new just because the old devices will get it. It's meant to support them. They can have support for new hardware and at the same time for old hardware.

Q10 and Z30 came after the Z10. But these 3 phones are here before the Classic. Not sure how your reasoning isn't flawed.

What would be neat is the option to swap between OS5 and BB10 UI. That would be epic.

That would be a true hybrid. Basically duel booting, how else to change the OS.
Personally don't think it would work.

Dual booting. It's possible!! Maybe just by rebooting the phone and holding or pressing a sequence of buttons to open the option. Or maybe they CAN do it live within the settings or options menu.

What if the large company you work for refuses to support BB10? Could OS5 be loaded onto the classic to effectively upgrade my 9900?

I don't see how this would be impossible, dual booting OS's aren't impossible, or even TRI booting. I run windows and ubuntu on my PC. It wouldn't be impossible to do the same with a smartphone.

You may say that OS 5 can't support 99xx specs, but what happens when you try to install windows 98 on a modern PC? Still works. Even if it takes rewriting short pieces of code.

Would require a total rewrite of BBOS in order to bring it into this decade. Better off axing BBOS and putting whatever strong points it had into BB10.

I'm not saying it's impossible. I'm saying it's not likely that BlackBerry will do that. Regardless of how the specs are upgraded on the device, BBOS is limited platform in many ways. It requires the user to restart the phone when installing apps, apps are limited to how much RAM is on the device since that is where they are stored, and over a few days the phone begins to crawl based on low memory. The black clock issue when an app runs into an issue takes the whole phone down with it. I remember BBM Groups doing this whenever someone would join or leave and my phone was out of commission for 10+ minutes.

Like Thurask said, a lot of the core strengths of BBOS can be brought over to BB10. It is a new OS, so of couse it just takes time to bring that back. Hopefully 10.3.1 will bring a lot of that back since it is focused on the Classic and the return of the toolbelt.

First, I think it should be clear this is an upgraded Q10 with a ToolBelt not a 9900 with BB10. There IS a difference.

I think it's safe to say the Classic will have 10.3.1 and a ToolBelt, period. The screen will work with gestures exactly how 10.3.1 works, the example being ignoring the ToolBelt if you want. The ToolBelt I believe will work as we have come to know. Answer/End, Back, BB Button while the Track Pad would be used for editing and selecting. I don't think there is anything secretive or difficult to understand. Again, its an updated Q10 with a ToolBelt not a 9900 with BB10.

The idea of swapping between BBOS and BB10 is silly. The most I could see it ability to turn off the the ToolBelt but that would be weird to. Just stick with the Q10 if you don't want the ToolBelt

I just think it would be neat if there was a 'skin' overtop of the 10.3 that allowed it to function as bbos did.

I liked all the menu's and short cuts.

An app stored in RAM would necessarily (by definition) be deleted during reboot. Agree that core strengths of BBOS could (and should have at launch) been ported to BB10.
