I ordered the classic on the CANADIAN shop BlackBerry site (was charged HST) and when I went to pick it up I was charged HST and other customs duty.

This is the last straw for me with BlackBerry. I know BlackBerry doesn't run that site but they pick their vendors and I've heard similar bad stories when ordering from that site. Shame on BlackBerry for letting it continue.

For some reason mine was shipped from the US even though it was ordered from the Canadian site.

If it comes from the United States then it absolutely necessary to pay tax and duty charges. That applies to anything bought abroad.

Well then shop BlackBerry should cover those fees if you ordered from Canadian site. If had other companies credit that money back before when items shipped from America because their Canadian stock was out.

Strange. When you order, they charge you right away( price+tax+shipping cost) and you pay everything right away. Nothing else and after. I recently ordered and received Z30 from them. No duty. And site is shopBB.ca, but warehouse actually in US.

It is a crap shoot at best when shipping from the US to Canada.... Unless I am using Ebay or Amazon I really never know when something is going to have tax or duty applied.... as for shopblackberry... Like others have said I would contact them for a refund... if talking to the "order taker" does not work escalate to a supervisor or manager....

I paid the $500 CAD plus provincial HST of 13% (which was charged again to me as duty). Generally, companies should have processes to deal with double tax when shipping .. but clearly the BlackBerry shop site does not.

I will have to call to get a refund which will be a huge pain.

that 13% should have been only once for sure...who did charge the second 13%..fed-ex?

It was actually taken at customs - paid through FedEx but it was withheld at customs. It looks like they didn't fill out the proper paperwork when shipping it across the border.

Buying from ShopBlackBerry... whether the item comes from the US or Canada, you always pay the applicable provincial taxes.

I'm gonna go out on a limb and say FedEx scammed you because that shouldn't have happened. If that was the normal case, there would be more people complaining about it. (I know I would) Something not right there, sir. I've ordered several devices and never had that happen.

    Mine was $499 + shipping 14.10 + tax @13% = 66.70 = $579.80

When I picked it up, I paid an additional $90 in customs (which included the same tax at 13%). I'm on the phone with them now and they said its not their fault and won't do anything about it. BlackBerry needs better control over their vendors because this is putting a bad taste in my mouth (from BlackBerry).

Why does this leave a bad taste in your mouth from BlackBerry, and not FedEx? Have you contacted FedEx yet to see about refunding all or a portion of the duties and/or taxes they collected?

BlackBerry doesn't control what duties and/or taxes FedEx collects.

I used to have similar problems with DHL and NetGear. I kept RMAing crappy NetGear products, and DHL kept charging me duty on the replacements. It was a pain, but I was able to get the money refunded. I can't remember the exact process, but I think I had to file a request with Revenue Canada.
