    Hi friends!

A few weeks ago I upgraded from the Z10 to the classic.
So far I like the hardware of the Classic and I thought the "internals" are the same as from the Z10.

Made a little camera "battle" and I have to admit that the Z10's camera is a bit better.
Especially when it comes to close up pictures and colors.
I don't know it is only a "software thing" - but I wanna share a close up picture of my hand.
(thought that would be best for details)

I did the same picture with both phones:

    First one with the Classic:
    [Camera] How you like it?-classic.jpg

    Second one with the Z10:
    [Camera] How you like it?-z10.jpg

That was the closest I could get with each device to get a sharp picture.
    Both ran in "automatic mode".
    Same light conditions, same place.

    IMO:
The Z10 has more details, but a bit less colors.
The Classic has stronger colors, but less details.
    What do you think?

Do you think that is a hardware thing or might be fixed with a software update?
Also I can get closer to things and focus on the Z10.

What are your thoughts to your Classic's camera?

Did you have the same OS on both devices... or is your Z10 still on an older official 10.2.1 OS?

Both are running on their latest official OS.

    Which means:
The Z10 on 10.2.2 and the Classic on 10.3.1

It would be interesting to see what would happen if the Z10 were on the same OS....

It's pretty amazing how much tweaking goes into the camera OS... sometimes for the good, sometimes not.

I've had no issues with pictures taken by the Classic compared to the Z10. With the newly upgraded 10.3.1 Telus recently pumped out, quality is much better.

They changed something on both camera software and algorithm on 10.3.x compared to the earlier 10.2.x OS. Most likely this is a software related thing. I might take some comparisons to my Q10, which also is still running 10.2.1

Color-wise, which picture represents how the scene really looks?

The camera on my Classic isn't the best. I do think my Z10 took better pictures. It focused faster and more accurately. On my Classic I have to move the phone around so it can focus on something. With my Z10 I could just point and it would automatically focus correctly.

Maybe it is specific tuning for each device. Both my clsc and my p9882[Z10] are on 10.3.1+.
    Here are the samples:
    Classic:
    [Camera] How you like it?-clsc.jpg
    P'9882:
    [Camera] How you like it?-9882.jpg
    Z30
    [Camera] How you like it?-z30.jpg
    PP one:

    [Camera] How you like it?-pp.jpg

Seem like the Camera HW has changed.

I really don't know it is "only" the OS?
Maybe the camera itself is a different unit?

    Thanks for your reply!
Do you mean the step from 10.3.1.747 to 10.3.1.2xxx did some improvements regarding the camera quality?

    What did you see?
    In what points?

I would like the camera but the autofocus is so slow it's pretty much laughable. Other than that, it's alright. Gets the job done.

I see it in the same way.
To my pictures: I would say that color-wise the Classic is a bit closer to the "real" colors.
Pictures taken with the Z10 have a bit "colder" and "less" colors - but the contrast, details and AF works better (especially when it comes to close ups).

I wonder if this can be improved by some software updates for the Classic.

I don't wanna say that the Classic's camera is bad - pics taken with it are ok. But I had better results with the Z10.

"Warmer colors" with the Classic - better details with the Z10.

    IMO the AF is slower.
But it can't keep up with close ups.

They've all been reduced in size to 1024 in PS.
No other processing. Saved as with 100% quality settings of 12.

I can add a Z30 at a later time. Don't have it with me right now.

    Thanks buddy!
    I see you well equipped!

As far as I know the Z10, Z30 and the Q10 got same camera hardware.

Today I played around with the Classic and I think HDR is a bit more "aggressive" on it.
    When you take HDR pictures.

It will give the pictures a bit more details.

What would be really interesting is a comparison of the different camera versions through the years on one device. 10.0 vs 10.1 vs 10.2 on the Z10. But I guess there are no Z10s with 10.0 anymore? And you can't flash back to this very first version, right? I can't remember exactly if the autofocus was faster back in 2013, but from my feeling it was. But I came from a 9790 to the Z10 and the whole experience was new and fresh. So naturally I was blown away by OS 10 vs 7.1.

It is really awesome and impressive how good covered you are with Blackberry devices!

And indeed - I can't really see any differences here.

The more I wonder if there will be any changes with the Classic.
I thought it is the same hardware as the Z10's but it seems to be different.

Thanks for all the work deremi! Really appreciate the effort. Only 10.3.1 looks to have less contrast. In general, have you noticed big differences between each version regarding the time it takes to autofocus till the image is shot?

Didn't really pay attention but that being said It didn't come up as an issues so I doubt it. Only one that needed extra attention was the PP. Definitely PP camera needs to be tweaked a lot more before it is good.
