I did a swap on Saturday through bb link everything seemed to be ok, however my contacts and calendar didn't moved over from the q10. both had recent upgrades.... Now when trying to reload error message says "device data insnt compatible with device software" or something similar to that! I had this problem before and used a 3rd party app, I had to change the name of contacts folder before it loaded, but I cant remember what that was. Anyway, does anyone know how to fix this? I need my contacts back

I found that I had to reload all the apps from BB world before it would restore anything. after a few tries of course then I lost all my calendar appointments and previous texts. I think this happened because I did not backup after every reload over a couple of hours.../

    What's your time zone?
From which device to which device?

I think you can use Firechest BackUp (free) or BackUp Pro to backup and restore within BlackBerry 10.

    Device switch is also good.

An alternative is to synch to outlook.com (I found it more reliable than Googlemail) ... may be best.

I moved my contacts from my Bold 9900 OS 7.1 to my Q10 with Bluetooth: I selected all and transferred from device to device by allowing the transfer. It worked for me!

Thank you for all your replies. I don't have the other phone anymore! I dropped my z30 in water and bought a q10 temp phone until insurance replaced z30 for the classic. the switch to the q10 from the damaged z30 was miraculously straight forward. I didn't lose anything. contacts and calendar switched over. It was the q10 to the classic that I lost all contacts and calendar. I kept getting a message saying "device data isn't compatible etc....." for contacts and calendar. I did have this problem before and used a 3rd party app from a 9900 bold to a z10. I did use outlook now but didn't restore more recent contacts. I lost some important client/customer contacts. thank you for your responses. I will try the Firechest BackUp

Firechest will not be able to restore anything outside of what it backs up. That being said, too late now. Should have had at least 2 backups of the previous device. Anything less than 2 is just asking for trouble.

I suggest to set up an email account on www.outlook.com and to synch contacts, calendar and remember with it. (for the future)

Data might be incompatible, when you use Link, for example, if the OS core is not the same, for example from 10.1 to 10.2 but when you use a sub version from 10.2.0 to 10.2.1 or 10.2.2, Link can restore.

That's why the software Firechest or the online synchronization on outlook might be better, because they're OS-independant.
