I avoided the Q10 because of that issue. I was wondering if the legacy devices ever had this issue.

My 9900 developed it near the end of its use. But I don't think any device had it as extensively as the Q10. Thankfully my Q has been okay.

Yes, legacy devices were susceptible to the issue. It just never seemed as pervasive as on the Q10. I think it was much rarer for a new legacy device to have keyboard issues whereas a fairly new Q10 would develop the problem within a couple months.

My 9900 started double typing during second year of its use. It was related to letter R.

I replaced two keyboards on my Bold 9900 because of this issue. One of the phones was never dropped. I still have two spare keyboards and started to see sporadic problem on one of the devices. I have to admit that although I love BB keyboard this issue has kept me from buying Classic yet and I am really disappointed that it seems to be still haunting Blackberry phones.

My condolences, OP. Glad I went with the Q5 (issue free) after reading about the double typing issue on the Q10.

Never had the double-typing issue, huh? Once you've had it, you're always paranoid.

I have replaced keyboards on Q10's with the issue, no issue with my Classic yet. Hopefully it doesn't develop it. I heard it had something to do with the metal domes shifting or not being properly centered on top of the contacts or something like that.

The double typing issue normally worsens over time, so good luck going forward. Please keep us updated on the condition and the resolution.

@OP: For reference, how heavily do you use the device/keyboard?

Blackberry needs to definitely look at this issue with their keyboards. They are basically the only company to do this and brag about their keyboards. They need to make sure that these problems are in the minority and do not become an issue for people on the fence.

I firmly belive that moisture is a big part of the problem and makes things worse.

Looking at delicate nature of the design, I don't think this issue will be ever be resolved.

I changed keyboards three times on 9100 Pearl (which had worse of all keyboard design, where moisture had it really easy to get under the membrane) and one time on the 9780 (great design, but still double typing).

Over time, moisture somehow is finding it's way under the membrane. That is why usually the outside keys are the first ones that start having issues.

For this reason keeping the phone close to the body like inside a pocket or typing with wet hands should be avoided.

Finally after almost two years of use my 9900 started having double typing issues as well (letter a,s,r,p). Lucky for me it stopped after a week. So I do belive that it was moisture related as well.

BTW, from what I have seen so far, the 9900 seems to have the best keyboard design with regards to ease of replacement. It can be done in minutes without opening the phone too much. I can't say anything about Classic yet of course, because I never had one in my hands.

My 9900 no keyboard issues after three years use, just fitted new keyboard for cosmetic reasons, wear on some keys and only 5 mins to fit, very easy to work on and reliable, so waiting to see if Classic follows Q10 double typing issue hoping it doesn't.

Just by virtue of using a physical keyboard, realize this will happen.

Solution: Hypersensitive problem on Q10 is solved. For double typing issue probably too. - BlackBerry Forums at CrackBerry.com

Any device is susceptible to hardware failure over time, including full touch phones.

It's so funny. And sad. Somebody starts a thread with 'double typing' in its title, and immediately, everybody gets excited and wants to leave BlackBerry forever, as if there were any proven facts.
Only time will tell if the Classic is suffering from this issue. Based upon what can be read in this forum, there is no serious evidence, and I hope it will stay like that.

Guys, even if it happens there is a solution. But I'd be really really disappointed in BlackBerry if Classic will have same keyboard issues as Q10 had.
