I tried the one in the Maps applcation yesterday and it didn't seem to work so well. Any suggestions? I almost always will be using the GPS for walking around New York City.

    Thanks!

It's definitely not ideal but I sometimes use the browser to go on google maps when the Maps app can't find what I'm looking for.

Sounds like you are going around searching for Pokemon. How do you got it in your Classic?

Navfree is a decent app. It's free and maps are stored on the device. Downside is you can't save the maps to the SD card. Otherwise it would be perfect.

Not a fan of any app like waze that tracks your position and reports it online. We already have the NSA for that, lol.

Sideload Google Maps. It's an older version that works though. Not the most current one. Has live traffic. I find the ETA to always be spot on.

Can I ask you guys if there is any trick to using GPS correctly? I mean, can it be used for waking? Do I need to hold the phone level with the ground? Or straight up?

alfred442, can you find/see the folder where data is stored?
in OSMAND 2.6.3 i am not able to see the folder from the bb file explorer, neither Ghost commander or total commander.

App works well and maps download but it is annoying not being able to control the files.
From device monitor I can see that OsmAnd is using 500Mb and I have the button "Clear data"

From the app I change the storage folder to
    /mnt/sdcard/external_sd/maps

The app asked about moving there the maps, and after confirmation all the data was copied to the desired folder.

Now from device monitor the app shows only 15MB of data

Where were the files stored before? Is impossible to access?

Canada Post, NavFree, ShawGoWiFi, BB Native Map, BB Native Weather App BB native clock app, BBVE will locate satellites. Having a home and work to start from seem to help the native app move along.. along with worldmap and whether information.

Navfree has a nice UI and native but:
is based in old and outdated OSM maps
Maps are stored in non accesible internal mem

OSMand is an android with a nice UI :
is based in latest OSM maps
Maps can be stored in accesible external mem

Running in a BlackBerry the response and speed of OSMand is much better than Sygic

Sygic v17 works well in Classic. I had many problems with sygic v14 an v15 but luckily new version go better in BlackBerry

There is still a problem with BlackBerry folders because sygic needs a lot of time to find the stored maps but this behaviour is common to other android apps

The best IMO is Maps.ME (and it's free)

Map.me and Osmand relies on Openstreetmaps, which are collaborative maps, and some regions have more collaborators than others.
Unfortunately, some streets/road are missing in OSM but existing in the commercial maps (teleatlas, navteq...) so sygic, tomtom, google are still necessary for most people.
