OK, I'm ready to pre-order Classic on Amazon, as soon as it becomes available.

However, Amazon has a track record of listing Blackberry GSM phones to be working on both AT&T and T-Mobile networks, despite that being only partially the case.

So how in the world am I supposed to know which Model Version Amazon sells and what to order?

You'll basically have to contact Amazon. I would recommend placing the order as soon as it goes up for sale on Amazon, then doing a chat with them right away.

Also make sure it is shipped and sold by Amazon and not by someone else via the marketplace...

I contacted Amazon Wireless, who told me that I can't even buy an unlocked phone with a 2 year AT&T contract discount.

    Is that true?

Can I buy an unlocked Classic with a 2 year AT&T contract on Amazon?

It wouldn't be unlocked if you do the contract... It's one or the other.

OK, but will the Classic be available on Amazon with AT&T contract BEFORE the Classic is available on AT&T.

Similarly let's say AT&T would even decide not to carry the Classic at all. Whould I still be able to buy it on Amazon Wireless with a 2 year AT&T contract?

Sorry for all this questions. I'm just trying to have all the eggs in one basket for a possibly short window of preorder.

Most likely not man, those discounts are subsidized by AT&T so it would have to be carried by AT&T, and unless you have one of the old grandfathered plans like I do before this forced "family share plan" nonsense with the "network access fees" the 2 year contract doesn't really help since they will charge you more per month. But if you have an old style plan like I do then the 2 year contract discount does work out in our favor. If that's the case, get the newest Android or iphone using the contract discount and sell it, you'll likely make a profit even after buying the Classic outright unlocked...

    Thanks.

I was afraid you would say that. Indeed I know the drill as I did exactly as you said already a few years ago. I bought unlocked and then sold my upgrade.

Currently I'm eligible for an upgrade already for 3 month already, OR lost 3 month from my next upgrade, depending on how we look at it.

Either way I would love to know if AT&T is going to offer Classic soon.

If not, I might just have to do another upgrade sale. Although that might not be as easy either. My data plan specifies Blackberry data, so I'm not sure how upgrading to Android phone would affect continuous using of my Blackberry.

I wouldn't even wait, the longer you wait the less the new iphone 6 is worth. Either way, you're likely save more money with the discount on the iphone than you would the Classic, so just upgrade now to the iphone 6, sell it, and hold on to that money for the Classic when it comes out...

But do you think if I do that, I'm not going to have any issues then using my 9900 on an iPhone data paln?

Hm, that's a good point since that still uses BIS... I'm not sure. If it's a good enough deal (haven't checked for the prices recently) you can always ask the AT&T rep if you can continue to use the 9900 after getting the other phone, if they ask why just make some BS up or tell the truth, honestly what you do with the phone after you pay for it is your business...

I also just realize that Nano-Sim might be another issue.

Anyhow, I will call AT&T soon (when I have patience for holding an hour) and post what I found out here.

    I checked with AT&T.

I was told that technically there are no issues of switching between Blackberry and iPhone. They would just need the phone info. There would be no administrative charge for switching back and forth between Blackberry and iPhone either.

So now I just have to figure out which model comes with the highest subsidy.

As far as numbers go, I would have to pay a $40 upgrage fee + the taxes on the pre-subsidy phone price, so another $70 or so. So approx. $110 total in fees and taxes and then of course the 2 year contract price of the phone of choice.

Going this route, I doubt I can collect much more towards Classic than $300, which is actually not even that bad.

Would be nice is there was a site that maintained a very comprehensive list of all Blackberrys, carriers and what worked on which.

When will the crop up on Amazon? I'd prefer to order through them than BB.
