Having unused ram doesn't actually do anything unless you suddenly need a ton of ram for something.
Though usually having the ram occupied could mean some applications running in the background and using battery at idle...

Basic physics less resistance the faster and stronger it will run.

You can apply this to anything.

I can't free more than 600mb on my classic despite closing all active frames and nothing running in the background

I wouldn't get hung up on the ram usage too much. I do take a look in Memory to see if they're any apps running that I don't want and close them.
I pay more attention to the CPU usage. For instance, if you look at CPU, system alone should hover around 5% consistently while you look at it. If you see it spiking or staying above 10%, it's time for a restart.

It doesn't matter how much free ram you have. It only starts to become a problem below 500mb free. That's how memory management works.

I also would not fiddle with nuance and other language files, as it tends to cause problems down the line if you are into installing leaks with delta upgrades.

You should hard set after running optimizer how quick you use up your ram will depend on the apps you are using.

Thanks for the heads up of possible problems. So far no problems. I did run into a problem having to reboot when I had Google Play. Since removal no problems! But then only 2 days ago.

The whole Cobalt apparatus is pretty system intensive, so I agree that one should only install it if heavily involved with Android apps (which I am).

The whole purpose of this thread is to show a work around and living with only 2gb of RAM. Before launch some of us preached we needed 3gb. So I'm working around what came in the Classic.

I really want Google Play to work for me but I don't want a slower phone just because the Google Maps is better.

I had a choice and choose to run Snap and just use apk apps that don't need Gplay on your phone.

Just be glad the 2gb devices seem to be so efficient even without work arounds. My Q10 actually multi tasked better than my Passport, which already uses 50-60% RAM right after (re)booting/when idle for some reason. And it can hardly run more than 4 active frames without slowing down.

That is exactly why I made my thread about Passport RAM issues. For some reason it already idles at 50% RAM usage, and even with as little as 3 native Active Frames open it drops below 500mb and starts protest/force close stuff. Not to mention what even a single Android app does.
Then when you actually look at the running apps the numbers don't even add up, which makes it even more strange.

I find it hard to believe I'm the only one that sees absolutely 0 benefit from the +1GB the Passport has compared to other BB10 devices.

you know adding a gb of extra ram doesnt mean that you will have an extra gb available all the time............................... learn before you rant. its not how it works. the extra ram is used to store more files in the memory before swapping, etc... my q10 lagged so freakin bad with 3-4 frames open, obviously depending on the apps. its a lot better on my passport

Downloaded 5 more apps and cleaned up the phone. I am now using 626mb of RAM and have 1.52gb available.
    Attachment 361072
Ram Optimizers are useless because every time you end the app, it starts back up again. Then it taxes on the CPU and drains your battery.

Typed on my posh black Classic.

No just restarted it 2x, I suppose a reset would also work.

I know it doesn't work that way. But if, after a clean reboot, the Passport always uses ~1GB for processes that are invisible in the Device Monitor, but for the other devices this DM view is accurate, that sounds like an issue to me.
I don't mind it using all the RAM it has, I just want to know wht is using it so I can optimise my usage.
