wired headphone question
i just got a 9700, switched from an iphone 3gs. i was trying a few different 3.5mm headphones, including my old iphone headphones that i want to use, and none of them work to make calls or use music. from what ive read, im 99% sure that as long as they are 3.5mm i should at least be able to use voice dialing with them. the only headphones that work are the blackberry ones that came with my phone which dont stay in my ears for more than a minute. whats even stranger is that i tried the headphones in my friends 9700 and they worked perfect. the only difference is he got his phone a few months ago and has an older version of os 5. does anyone know if they took away some capability of none blackberry headphones (not even sure if that is possible) with the newest update or is there just something weird going on with mine.
i forgot to add that i tried the headphones in a blackberry at an att store (the people working there were clueless) and i couldnt get the headphones to work either, which further puzzled me

Same problem here. My dre beats solo headphones can only be used to listen to music, and that's if I plug it in slowly. Plug it in too fast and it doesn't recognize they are even plugged in. Can't play or pause music or make calls with them either.

have you tried the headphones that came with your phone, i dont understand why they work and other 3.5mm wont, the jack is the same

Yup. The BB headphones work fine. Too bad they are terrible.. My Dre Solo's worked perfectly on my old 8320, so I doubt they are to blame.

yea this sucks, im just used to my iphone headphones at this point and id rather not switch, the only thing im thinking is i can cut off the iphone earbuds and attach them to the blackberry cord which id rather not do.
its just weird because the headphones worked fine on my friends and the only difference is his operating system which was like v5.0.0.221 or something like that, compared to mine v.5.0.0.405 but i dont know why that would make a difference, does anyone else have this problem?

yea thats what ive been thinking even though it doesnt really make sense because i dont think it can recognize blackberry headphones just from the jack, i just got my phone i might just see if theyll give me a new one and see if it will work

Downgrade your hardware then and test it? I just got a new Bold today because my headphones were only playing in mono and you had to funk with the jack and spin it to get it to do stereo.

i just tried downgrading to what my friend has but it didnt work, im out of ideas except trying a new phone

Just spoke with a T-Mobile rep and she was 90% sure that a master reset of the phones OS would clear up the problem. Ill let you know if it works once I can get to my computer and do a backup.

thanks, im new to blackberry and not really sure what that means, so far ive tried the battery pull, downgrading the os and then going back to the newest one and nothing has worked, but im getting a new 9700 because my trackpad came messed up so hopefully it will work on the new one
