By the time I'm available for my upgrade something better would be available. But I would love one.

Same boat here...just got my 9700 a few short months ago and not available for an upgrade for 20 months...and see no reason to pay full retail for one...I am not "that" into my cell phones, lol!

Besides my phone does everything I need it to do.

I like the concept. Bigger screen and touch and still keep my physical keyboard for text/email.

Of course it will all come down to execution. Will it be weighted right? Will the slider get in the way when typing? How will the touch screen and keyboard mixture feel? What will the build quality be like?

I am not going to break contract on my 9700, but I might consider the slider (maybe a slider 2.0 by than) a year from November.

    Not sure yet.

I could get a good price for my current 9700 and buy a 9800 slider for a tiny bit extra. But there is so many factors involved.

How responsive will the touch screen be?
How good will the slider part be? Will it wobble? Wear and tear?
How heavy will it be? No point having a slider if the thing is annoying to hold?

Don't get my wrong I love my Bold 9700, but if I could get a touch screen BB with a keyboard attached, then why not?

The 9800 is only launching on ATT. If you unlock it and use it with tmobile its a downgrade for us cause its only EDGE. Ill wait till T-mobile launches something. But ill most likely just keep my 9700 and when 6.0 leaks ill try it and see

yea It's always a prob when contracts are in the middle of a cool phone upgrade .. I wish they would give you a break for buying a phone at full price
on your 2nd upgrade. or some kind of incentive lol

No way - my 9700 is just great. However - i would be interested in seeing how the Dakota turns out - if it does. That might just be the best of all worlds.

Since I'm not on contract and pay full price for my devices, I'll definitely check it out when it comes out... I won't dismiss the possibility of switching from my 9700 to the 9800, but it depends how well it's executed - how smooth and how well the slider mechanism works...

But since it sounds like ASuck&Suck will have 'exclusivity' on it for a few months... I won't be in any rush...

i would never switch to slider phone again.. I've owned Nokia n95 8gb which is a slider phone. The slider mechanism got wobbly after 2 weeks of use!! i can see already a ton of topics in 9800 "my slider is wobbly"

Nope...staying with my 9700. My hubby might decide to check it out though since he's still using an 8310.

Probably not. The form factor is ok but I don't think I'd be a big fan of it. I have no issues with my current 9700.

I will. I have 2 upgrades available now to me. I will however wait until August or so to purchase one. I've learned never swoop up a brand new phone the day of release because there's always some sort of kink that needs to be fixed.

I like my 9700 but I want a larger viewing screen and the ability to use touch and screen scrolling. In actuality I'd be happy if the 9800 wasn't a slider and was 1" longer and 1" wider (than the 9700) that was touch capable.

If I don't like it, I'll just return it.

I probably might buy it just to check it out but I can easily see myself going back to my trusty 9700. That touchscreen might actually make browsing fun which is something id like to see fixed on BB OS. OS 6, hurry up!!!

I will see what OS6 looks like on the 9700. That will be like getting a new phone. I like the 9700 so there is no NEED to change. I don't upgrade until Jan of next year so everything will be clear by then.

No. Well, at least not at launch I've been itching for a bigger screen since I left the 9000, and I actually like the Pre's form factor combined with a Berry keyboard and OS 6 goodness. I'm concerned about the battery size as I've heard its what, 1100-1200mAh? Plus, with this launching in june (Bold line?) I'm curious about what RIM puts out in november for the Bold anniversary

I will only make the jump to the under these conditions

    1. It will be released for T-Mobile

    2. The phone runs smoothly and not laggy

    3. And if there is space to type smoothly and not be like the palm pre with everything all bunched in a tiny space

I'm not a huge slider fan and so far my 9700 is the perfect phone for me. So no. (And also, if I get another phone my wife will shoot me.)

If the 9800 comes out aka slider / touch screen BB will you get one ?

I think its cool I will prolly get one .. I like having the option .. wonder if 6.0 will be smooth enough to make use of the 9800.
No, No, and No. I don't care for sliders. Just something else to break.

Nah, probably not, but if the reviews come in and are pretty impressive I'll at least consider it (and then probably not get it)

    Yes, I love slider phones!

One of the last phones I owned before I was addicted to BlackBerry's was a Nokia Silver Slider phone. It was old school but it was one of my favorites. That combined that with a BlackBerry, it's at least worth a look. If I don't like it, I can always revert back to the 9700 which by the way is awesome!
