in the market for the 9900, was wondering if bbm and texts will work over wifi, UMA did, i can't find anything that talks about the wifi ability for this but i imagine that BBM will work if the phone registers to the blackberry servers..

    can someone clarify please

    thanks

BBM already works over wifi, texts will work too once 7.1 arrives with UMA support.

You need BIS plan for BBM over wifi for sure. Don't know about texts over wifi.

BBM uses data, it will go over wifi if available. you need a BIS plan in order to use it.

SMS does not use data, it will not work over wifi......it never has or will. it relies on carrier service for transmission.

I agree. The only way to get texts over a wireless network would be to use UMA. If you live in an area where Google Voice is available, that would be your best bet for text message because it is easy to check over a wifi network. Only SMS messages for now, but I believe Google is starting to test MMS on a limted basis.

yea, unfortunately i would love not to give google any more information than it already has on me.

uma was amazing and it's sad to see it disappearing.
