    Here is what happens:
    TechSmith | Screencast.com, online video sharing, 2010-07-19_1204

I am an ATT user. I have a BB Bold 9000. As you can see, when I click Update, it only gives me the option to update to 4.6. What am I doing wrong?

I tried to read the sticky post at the top for additional information but the file seems to be deleted. Please help good people of CB!

If you couldn't upgrade from BB's site, it is more likely because At&t have not released an OS 5.0.

Download the latest OS ( 5.0.0.681 ) from the sticky at the top of the forum and install it on your PC. Then, follow This Guide

The latest OS for the Bold 9000 from AT&T is 4.6. OS 5.0 does not exist for AT&T. Do what Ahmed G told you to get the latest OS 5.0.0.681. It works great on AT&T.

Would installing this official for others but unofficial for Atnt version (.681) lock any features for us if installed? (like blackberry email accounts or any other facility or features that ATnT would provide if we were on there 4.6.0.304 version?

This is my only concern. I will try it though, I don't mind tinkering with my phone. Thanks!

Newbies do simple research on this forum.

RIM official OS can be used on ANY carrier. Follow the simple instructions at the sticky on the top of the 9000 forum page. IT WILL NOT BREAK YOUR PHONE! IT WILL NOT LOCK YOUR PHONE! It will give you more functionality then older OS.

    Important, Delete the file vendor.xml (it's in C:\Program Files\Common Files\Research In Motion\AppLoader\)

Yep, done it --- on 681 its amazing. feels like a new phone. However, the memory usage has increased. I initially had 16 mb free on a battery pull with 4.6 OS. With 5.0, it has dropped to 9 MB on fresh battery pull.

I can't really remember. But there was a thead of which the OP have noticed an increase in free memory after a day or so. I don't pay much attention to free memory since I have 127.5MB on my 8900 ( yeah, you've read it right ) of free application memory

That reminds me, I need to go to the 8900 subforum and taunt them for not having 3G.

OS5 is a bit larger than 4.xxx. Try removing anything you do not, or have not used in the past month.

+1 for me . . Though I don't use 3G but it would be nice if it had it.

I used Shrink-A-OS prior to installing .681. You can get an extra 10-15 mb easily.

I upgraded to OS5 following the instructions on this site and I was nervous, but it works great. Only problem, I too have a worse memory problem than before. BlackBerry messed up so bad with the Bold only giving it 128mb!

The reason I have so much free memory is simple. I have only few applications installed on my BlackBerry ( App World, BatteryEX, BBM and CaptureIT ). I've removed all the languages which I won't be using ( only Arabic and English are installed ) and I've removed the Games since I won't be using them either.

Moreover, I have uninstalled most of the applications that came with the BB ( Password Keeper, word, powerpoint, ... etc. ) since I'm not gonna be using them either.

The result of all that is having a free application memory of 127MB. So, remove all the apps and languages you won't be using and you shall increase your free application memory.

I think you meant to say 27MB. There is no way you have 127MB free on a Bold 9000.

Why are you always posting here in the 9000 forumthen? Your experiences with memory on the 8900 have little if any bearing.
