I am just wondering why some people say to not update OS's OTA...? I know CX said this but I am just wondering if anybody knows why specifically? Shouldn't it by definition be the exact same thing...

If the update fails for whatever reason, you're boned. That's why. At least using apploader or DM, you can have a back up of your data and everything so that if it happens, you aren't completely screwed.
There have been mixed results. It used to be a big clusterf***, but last go around there was a lot of success. I'll take the safe route and do it via the PC.
Yep, lost signal equals a bricked BB. And that equals a royal PITA. Are you willing to take that chance?

Hhaa! Exactly what I was gonna say. Once you lost signal for some reason, boom. There goes your download and there goes your phone.

Yeah I figured all of this, looks like I'll just have to wait an extra week for a PC.
Thanks
Hmm, you would think they would download the whole thing into system memory, I mean what else is all that space for if we can't use it? This way it can fully download and if you loose signal it will resume when you do.

Another reason not do to an OTA OS install is that you still need the OS installed on your PC if you are going to use tools like CrackMem to modify it. CrackMem works on the OS files on your PC, not on the installed and executing code on your BlackBerry.
Also though what about WiFi shouldn't that take away the loss of service concern...?
With as many differences in outcome we see with people performing the same steps when updating from their computers, you really trust it to go seemlessly every time OTA? It'll probably work for many who try it, but given the fact that App World can cause two instances of the same app on my phone and other random errors with program updates, I'm not about to start making my OS update the same way.

Whaty if your internet connection has a hiccup? LOL.

But then the same could be said about your pc, what if it freezes or a power surge happens? You take a chance.
that being said, it's more safer to dl it from your pc than OTA.
