I passed a tmobile store while I was at the mall today and on the way back I decided to go in. They had a white 9700 and I instantly noticed the trackpad was SIGNIFICANTLY raised higher than mine and the others. And I talking raised!

I support RIM, but I'm blown away by the inconsistencies with all the trackpads. And this just totally adds to the mystery.

Interesting observation. Not sure if that is endemic to just the white ones but
I would imagine that would be massively annoying.

If I get to one of the T-Mo stores around here I'll take a look also.

I got my white bold (Mexico 4) this monday, and I have to say this: the phone is flawless (100x better built than the black version). The trackpad is just what I want to have on my black 9700 without any scott tape underneath. Not even 1 mm move when u use the trackpad.

I noticed this with the black bolds as well . A friend of mine got the black bold a few weeks back and I could tell that the trackpad was raised as well . Personally , its better this way but I wasnt able to get used to it because Ive been using mine for almost a year now (trackpad sits lower compared to his) .

I bought my wife a white one on release day on May 26th. To tell you the truth I see no difference other than the color. I have had my black 9700 since Nov 19, 2009. Maybe it's an optical illusion.

white always makes things look bigger. I have had about 20 blackberrys 9700 and see no difference at all between them physically.

Lol... No.... Definitely was not optical illusion, nor did the white make it look bigger. Even the person I was with confirmed it. It was much, much higher than any black one I've ever seen. You can see the difference just from looking at it.

So weird that rim can't make the pad uniform. I have seen dozens of 9700 s and the pad is all over the map.
Just don't get it at all.

Yeah especially now that the 9650 was released and they seem to be seeing inconsistencies as well...

It must be 9700 design modification by RIM.The 9650s have this as well.I assume it must exist on the new Pearl 3G 91xx series also.
