You would need to buy a SIM card from the carrier you want to use. If you're using the phone on Sprint which is a CDMA carrier, they don't use a SIM card for this phone.

You will also need to get this phone unlocked to use it on any carrier other than Sprint.

Edit: the 9930 does not have a SIM tray (like you see in nano SIM phones.) The SIM goes in the back, under the battery.

Alright, first, it is unlocked. Well I was told it is. How do I check? Second Sprint does not sell the sim card any longer. I spent HOURS on the phone w/them last week w/no resolution in the least. I bought a "mini" sim card from ebay but it doesn't fit the slot on the 9930. I bought a couple of adapter kits but neither had the "mini" to standard size that is in the 9930. Kinda bangin my head on the wall here. Can't use a phone w/a camera at work, thus the desire to use the 9930...
    Help please...

Check under Options>Device>Advanced System Settings>SIM Card. If you see a bunch of Inactive/Disabled readings (especially Network and Provider,) then the phone is unlocked. But you will have to get a SIM card to do this test. Any non-Sprint SIM card, active or inactive will do.

I think you mean 'micro' when you say 'mini,' because mini SIM is actually what you're calling 'standard' size. Anyway, if the 9930's SIM slot is anything like the 9900's, a micro SIM will fit. You just have to push it far back enough that the SIM is lined up properly.

I hate using adapters, so I just stick my micro SIM in my 9900 without one. That being said, an adapter shouldn't be too bad with a 9900/9930 because the SIM slot is "open" on the top, versus being sheathed or a nano tray.
