I just posted a similar topic in the 9800 section, it's true I guess.
I can still use it on the 9780 though, 2.16.17. I will have to make sure not to update it!!

Oh well...I'm sorry to say that starting this morning whatsapp is not working on the 9780 either...
This is really killing most vintage devices that people like us still enjoyed to us for fun here and there. Whatsapp nowdays is like what regular text messages used to be 15 years ago...you can't use a device that doesn't provide that service.

On the support page in English, WhatsApp states that the app will work until the end of the year only for OS 7 + devices. However, on the Spanish version it states the same but for both OS 6 and 7.

Therefore, I have been searching for a workaround and this morning finally managed to get WhatsApp working on a 9780 Bold. I will try it tonight on my, soon to be sold, Torch 9800.

This is what you have to do: Uninstall the current version you have on your Bold. After restarting, try downloading the version from here: beta.whatsapp.com/ota Follow through with the whole setup, it might take a while, but you should get the the SMS from WhatsApp with the code.

    Likewise, for Facebook, try: blackberry.com/facebook

Once you have both installed on your phone, use BBSAK on your PC to backup the apps, just in case the links no longer work and you need to reinstall: http://bbsak.org/download.php

Good luck, let me know if these tips work!

Hi, what folder do you download this to? I get a zip folder and even if I extract the files on my mac then thats where the process stops. Would you mind helping me with the steps you went through?

Don't use a computer, download the app directly on your phone using the browser. I've already managed to get WhatsApp working on a 9780 and a 9800.

Glad to help. Did you get 2.16.47 or 2.16.57? If it was the latter, what device did you use? I'm out for the weekend, but this might mean that there was a Beta update usable on OS 6, so I might give it a shot.

Since the time I had purchased the curve 9300 3G phone, i was able to download and use whatsapp perfectly.

Recently, I re-installed the OS 6 Software through the BB Desktop Software. After installation, I re-installed all the apps from BB World, including whatsapp. However, when I clicked the Whatsapp Icon on my screen, it says ""Switch to a supported Phone. Unfortunately, WhatsApp no longer supports this phone. Please switch to a supported phone."

Its not Dec 2016 yet and all my important business conversations and other data have been erased.

What do I do? I tried deleting and reinstalling Whatsapp from beta.whatsapp.com but again I got the same above message.

Its worse than a cardiac arrest...

I have just installed whatsapp by the link mentioned above and it has installed 2.16.85 on my Bold9780
But in the about info it says that my device won't work anymore with whatsapp after the 30rd of June because my device will not be supported anymore.
Ignore it or do I need a previous version from someone to keep it working?

Installing a previous version won't matter. Your device will be unable to connect or log in to WhatsApp after June 30, 2017. There will be no way, at that point, to keep it working.
