Whats the next model to replace the bold? Is that the Niagara or the Onyx? I'm completely confused with all the codenames and whatnot.
And when is it expected to be released?
My friend is looking to get one, just wanted to check if he should wait for the next one or pull the trigger now.
It's, as far as i know, the Onyx 9020.

The Onyx is NOT replacing the Bold. The Onyx is ANOTHER Bold. its in the Bold line. It is an upgraded version but the Bold is not EOL yet.
Maybe I will keep my Bold for a while but the Onyx it's a good option, don't want to downgrade my actual device.

I know that we have gone round and round on this point. Based upon the YouTube unboxing in the Onyx thread, it looks like an 8900 on steroids. Why would AT&T want to cannabalize BOLD sales in the US?
Good to read since I have just had my Bold a couple of months now and love it. It is going to take a pretty special BB to get me to change from my Bold.
I'm waiting on the rumored Magnum (but not holding my breath).
Looks like a Bold but it has a touch screen.

When is the Onyx to be released?
i also heard magnum will be replacement of bold.
RIM devices do not go EOL for at least 2 years after launch. Bold is still launching on carriers.
9020 will be a nice small device to replace all the outdated curves.
Other than that, Onyx isn't ready for mass production until RIMM has it ready by end of this year into early next year.
The specson it are somewhat a little better than the 9000 and better than the 96xx series because its getting an optical trackpad and will be running OS 5.0 with an upgraded processor, and some other stuff.
Ill be getting that one I'm sure, but not to replace my Bold, as its still the best BB on the market. Tour comes in second...or third since it lacks wifi and its slower than the Bold.
