I have Cities of the World going right now and my memory is at 5.2. This morning it was at 27.5....My Question is could this possibly be draining THAT much memory...even though it changes pictures every 5 minutes ?...

Yep. That could absolutely be it. I installed the Bold "3G" theme and it dropped my phone from 45MB down to 20 in less than 15 minutes.

Themes with high graphic content, animations etc usually drain more memory.
