I mean, I know people are saying it might be the Blackberry Tour 9600, but I just can't see that considering the differences between the two phones. It's really noticeable. (especially if the Onyx does get released with an optical trackpad & the Tour gets the trackball). In my opinion, the Onyx is more of a Bold replacement, so would that mean it would be considered the 10000.? Weird. I would figure that we're in a new generation of smart phones with RIM so that would mean:

    Curve 83xx/Replaced by Curve 8900
    88xx/Replaced by Tour
Pearl 81xx/ Replaced by Pearl 3g
    Bold 9000/ Replaced by Onyx
    Storm 95xx/Replaced by Storm 2

I think it kinda makes sense this way.

    Seems rational.

Hopefully it'll get a nice name.

I'm still gonna go with 9600. It's the Bold replacement I believe, and the Bold is 9000. So I think they're gonna stay with that trend the X000 so it'll be a 9600 device.

Your assuming that the 8800 series was replaced by the 9630 when it was replaced by the 9630 and the 9000 depending on what carrier you have.

I wouldn't be surprised if it was simply called the Bold 9800.

Onyx is the internal codename. It will have a different name at launch.

i like the internal codenames like magnum and onyx. they seem more classy and powerful. i hope rim doesn't screw up with the real names on launch day.

The 8220 is *not* 3G. The 3G GSM Pearl is supposedly the Stratus.

Looks like a Bold/Curve hybrid to me. I think it could go either way (looks-wise at least), personally...but since the 8900 is such a recent new addition to the Curve line, I'd be inclined to think it would be a new Bold since it seems like a new model hasn't surfaced in some time.

Or maybe... it could be the start of a new line with the option of a even better device on the horizon to replace the bold?!? Hmmm

I like the 9800 idea. Especially with Tour 96xx and if Storm 2 is 97xx.

Well apparantly this thread is all summed up. Kevin confirmed that it will be in the Bold series of devices, as the 9020. Im guessing this means it will lose the 'Onyx' tag, much like the 8900, when it was confirmed to be in the curve series it lost the 'Javelin' tag.

By Pearl 3g, I meant the Pearl 3g that was rumored to go to ATT

(If you remember when ATT had a bunch of pics out with specs and it said.. RIM ONYX, RIM MAGNUM, RIM GEMINI, RIM PEARL 3g) So I just assumed it as a replacement.

I'm very excited with the Onyx now being the Bold 9020! This basically means that it will have all the greatest features for this generation of Blackberrys (which it certainly does). To me I can't ask for more.

Anyway I think by series CDMA carriers and GSM carries have a huge difference its unbelievable. Luckily, I don't belong to a CDMA carrier but still I think its kind of unfair.
So far CDMA will be getting:
    Pearl Flip
    Storm/Storm 2
    Curve 8530

    Onyx (Bold 2)
    Pearl Flip
    Pearl 3g
    Curve 8900
    Curve 8520
