Remember on legacy devices when you would create a dial-up modem in the network control panel and do the whole Dial *99# thing? Well I'm in a certain scenario where I have to use that old-school technique to tether - it's a long story - but I'm curious if that will work on the 9900. I don't have one but I was thinking about getting one specifically for this purpose because the 9630 I'm using now has a VERY slow modem and my Z10 obviously doesn't work because OS10 uses "Link" instead of Desktop Manager. Thanks for any help.

Yes, it would work. You'd have to have Desktop Software installed. I don't think the device would make much of a difference though.

It's much more on what "G" you're using. If you are under 2G coverage, no device would be fast enough for anything, while on HSPA+ you'd probably be able to surf as usual.

As a sidenote, the Z10 can be used as a mobile hotspot, meaning it can turn itself into a WiFI router you can connect to and surf. The Z10 is also a 4G LTE capable device (unless you got a STL-100-1 >< ). If you can use that, it's a far better solution.

Also, both the 9860 and the 9900 would need an active BIS plan for this to work.

I was using this technique on my Torch 9810 before I "migrated" to BB10, so I think it should work. When thethered via Bluetooth or USB cable to a Windows PC, a "modem" device is added to the Device Manager, which can be used as you need it to be.

    ...but I don't have a 9900, I had a 9810, and since they both run OS7, I think they should behave identically.

Ok I'll give it a shot. I kinda want a 9900 anyways, this is just a really good excuse to get one.
