Would I be able to use 3g and UMA on T-mobile's network if I am using an AT&T branded 9700?

I am on Tmobile and am thinking of getting an unlocked AT&T 9700 from a friend but I'm not gonna buy it if I can't use it on Tmobile's 3g network and if I can't get UMA.

T-Mobile and AT&T use different variants of 3G and AT&T does not support UMA.

    I'd stick to a T-Mobile branded 9700.

you could probably do a very simple swap for a t-mobile phone by selling the unlocked AT&T one if you're gonna get a good price on it anyway

Because I was thinking about buying off a friend who will sell it to me for cheap. Anyway thanks for the answers. Looks like its a no go. I will just have to find a way to get my hands on a T-mobile branded one.

Yes UMA will work using a non-TMO branded 9700 on TMO's network. I have an OEM unbranded unlocked 9700 and UMA works just fine.

Out of the box it will not work, but once you create the UMA profile in the e-screen and install the two certs it works.
hes trying to use a att branded 9700.. the att version is different from a unbranded version.. because tmo and att have different 3G frequencies.. and att version doesnt have UMA unlocked..

If you're friend is willing to sell you one for the cheap you could just turn around and sell it for retail and buy a t-mo one retail....the transactions would cancel out and you'd have a t-mo 9700 for the cost of the ATT one from your friend

You might even come out ahead because you can get a lot for an unlocked 9700 and then buy a locked t-mo 9700 (generally cheaper) and get them to unlock it for free

What could you possible don't understand... let me break it down for you, ATT doesn't have UMA support because ATT does not have a "UMA network controller" aka server for UMA and T-Mobile does. kthanxbai next time do some research, google is your friend.
