    does anyone know how to use the numbers without pressing alt or turning on num lock? a friend of mine said she can do it without pressing alt or using num lock she wont tell me because she wants to see if i can figure it out but i cant

    turned out to be she had num lock on

    unless in a an application that has it default to num locks you cant

    Your friend is probably taking advantage of the situation Fubaz cited: in the Address Book, for example, num lock is turned on by default in the phone number fields.

    If you dial them on the home screen, it will start to show the letters, but pressing the call button will make the phone dial the number that you put in
