Really wanting to upgrade from the 9790 to 9900.
How much difference is there, though? Not much performance-wise?

I havent had the fortune to use the 9790, but I have used the 97x0 series devices. If you liked the 9790 keyboard, the 9900 will thrill you. Ive had the 9900 and 9930 The other thing will be having the touchscreen you are used to.
I know im tapping my 9000 screen now. lol

The 9790 was the first OS 7 phone I had. I loved the smaller form factor. The 9900 is like the 9790 on steroids. Bunky1971 is right, if you enjoyed the keyboard on the 9790 you will love the keyboard on the 9900. One thing I also noticed is that I use the touch screen on the 9900 a lot more than I ever did on the 9790. The larger screen just lends itself better to touch functionality. The 9900 also feels more solid in the hand. I think the only downside is if you prefer a smaller form factor then the 9790 can't be beat but otherwise I would say go for the 9900 for sure.

    Thanks, you two!

I originally wanted the 9900, but couldn't afford the money-down at the time, so I went with the 9790. Don't get me wrong, I love this phone! Works great! Didn't even mind the size of it; just had to get used to the small form with my cumbersome thumbs. Now I'm a whiz at it.

I've had the chance to tinker with a 9900 and, you're right, it feels great in the hand! Much more spacious and easy to manage. The screen feels gigantic compared to the 9790, and it even felt faster. The HD video was a nice touch too.

I've just been told that it doesn't run much different/faster than a 9900, but I find that hard to believe. Could it be true?

This is what I'm most excited about. I love what BL does for my 9790; I can't even imagine the 9900!

What's the best mix by now?

Nope, the Gods of BL have spoken :

The .862 from At&T is an ancient build, no custom LED, and still make a popping sound when boot up. Most of the cods are also not compatible with the newer OSes (even with .861), therefore we won't release a RC bulid using this .862 base + SFI.

The only thing you may miss is the auto focus on the 9790 camera. The 9900/9930's have no auto focus, but that's never been a huge issue for me. I'm sure everything else will be a better improvement for you.

The auto focus is nice, but I'm more excited about the higher MP and HD video. The 9790s video isn't very good at all, so I can live without auto focus. XD

I had a 9790 before I upgraded to a 9900. Never looked back. The screen was far too small for a touch device and the phone felt horrible, bit like a bar of soap, I was afraid it was going to shoot out of my hand.

LOL, it's true. I had to get a gel grip case just to have a solid grip on this. The first day I had it, it slipped out of my hand onto the concrete! X(

really? I never had a problem with grip on the 9900...the rubber grips around the device was excellent! The 9900 is king of OS7 devices for sure, definitely my fav.

Hehe, yes: I meant I had a hard time gripping the 9790 before a gel case.

The 9790 is a good size for one-handed use, though. I'm guessing the 9900 isn't, just from sheer size. That's okay, though.
