- Hey everyone! I'm having a bit of a rough time...I have a 9700 from T-Mobile that is unlocked. When I put my SIM card from my iPhone 3GS into it is has edge but not EDGE. I of course needed a BB plan. So I called AT&T to switch from the iPhone data plan to the BB Data plan and gave them the IMEI as they requested. The rep told me she couldn't add the data plan because their system didn't recognize it as a BB. Has anyone else dealt with this or know how I can get this done?? Thanks in advance!03-15-10 09:39 PMLike 0
- Can you go on the web and add it? You should be able to change your phone then change the plan. If not, call again, tell the rep what you did, and have them redo it. There isn't any reason why they can't do what you want, you might have just got a new csr.03-15-10 10:01 PMLike 0
- I will try and call again I suppose and see if I get any further...should I tell them it is unlocked from another carrier or does that matter? Does their system have to recognize it as a BB to be able to add the plan?
@abusedz And yes I realize I won't get 3G and I'm fine with that...but I have to get a data package on it to get email. I just am trying to get rid of carrying to phones basically...03-15-10 10:04 PMLike 0 - Yeah, tell them it's an unlocked Tmobile 9700, it shouldn't matter to them. You want the data plan, so no issues of trying to hide your phone from their system. They recognized my unlocked 9530 a while ago, I didn't even tell them what it was. Like I said, just tell them exactly what your doing, and hopefully you will get a rep who has a clue. If you don't, have them transfer you. There is no reason why it won't work for you, sometimes it just takes a little patience with csr's.03-15-10 10:11 PMLike 0
- The Bold 9700 has identical hardware for all its carriers. Thus you are able to use 3G on TMobile, ATT, etc....

Posted from my CrackBerry at wapforums.crackberry.com03-15-10 11:37 PMLike 0 - The 3G radio chips in the two versions are different. Plus one version is a tri-band 3G, while the other is a quad-band 3G. The article is wrong in so many respects it is just a joke. If they did indeed use one radio chip that would support all the 3G freqs they would just enable them for all carriers so data roaming on 3G would be more universal.03-16-10 12:38 AMLike 0
