Hello, I was given a Verizon Blackberry Bold 9650 when my mom updated to an iPhone, I'm on T-Mobile so I purchased an unlock code from Blackberrycodesource and received the code with no problems.

The first time I inserted my T-Mobile sim card, I was prompted to enter a 10 digit code. I applied the code I purchased but nothing happened, but it counted it as one attempt and I had 9 more. I tried two more of the instructions they list on their website:
Insert any active SIM Card and turn on the phone
    Go to ‘Options’ then ‘Device’
    Click on ‘Advanced System Settings’
    Click on ‘SIM Card’
Type MEPD (You won't see anything on the screen while typing) (For Verizon USA devices type MEPE instead)
Once you see the Personalization screen press and hold the ALT key and type MEP2
You will be prompted to enter the MEP code
Enter the 8 or 16 digit MEP2 code (CONFIRM you get a "Code Accepted" message)
*If you also have a MEP4 code, type ‘MEP4′ (you will be prompted to enter the MEP4 code)
Enter the MEP4 code (CONFIRM you get "Code Accepted" message)
Your Blackberry is now permanently unlocked!
It is recommended to restart your phone after unlocking.
Only once was I able to get to the Personalization screen, but I couldn't advance any further past that step. I wasn't prompted to enter any code :/

The next step I tried was for "all other models"
Insert any active SIM Card and turn on the phone
    Go to ‘Manage Connections’
Click on ‘Turn All Connections Off’
    Go to ‘Options’
    Click on ‘Advanced Options’
    Click on ‘SIM Card’
Hold ALT key and type ‘MEPE’ (user will be prompted to enter MEP code)
Enter the 8 or 16 digit unlock code (CONFIRM you get "Code Accepted" message)
    Reboot device
    Go to ‘Manage Connections’
    Click on ‘Restore Connections’
Your Blackberry is now permanently unlocked!
These steps didn't work at all. At this point every time I get to the SIM card option of the phone, it has my PIN displayed as well as my phone number.

Finally I saw a video on unlocking this model on Youtube, and the person was based somewhere in Europe and the instructions mentioned switching the mobile network options to GSM, which seemed to do the trick. I can make outgoing calls and my provider is listed as T-Mobile, but I'm worried this is just a quick fix. Was it as simple as changing the network option?

Sorry Ma, to unlock a blackberry you might need either the MEP2 code (network code) or MEP4 code (service provider code). so what you will do is, navigate to options-->advanced management-->SIM CARD-->> type MEPD and see what you have. e.g

    Sim. Disabled
    Network. Disabled
    Network Subset. Disabled
    Service Provider. Disabled
    Corporate. Disabled

if any is active, for example:

    Sim. Disabled
    Network. Disabled
    Network Subset. Disabled
    Service Provider. active
    Corporate. Disabled

then you need the MEP4 service provider code,
    if you have:

    Sim. Disabled
    Network. Disabled
    Network Subset. active
    Service Provider. Disabled
    Corporate. Disabled

    you need the MEP2 code.
