I just got my bold after putting up with the storm 1 for way too long. Love it so far but what I can't seem to figure out is how to lock on the 'alt' key and the 'shift' key. Is it something simple I'm missing or is there no way to do it?

Alt, then LShift, locks the Alt key.
Alt, then RShift, lcoks the Shift key.

In case you did not know - holding down a letter key will capitalize it. That might be the same on the Storm?

there are also several hotkeys that can be used when you turn off the dial from homescreen option within the phone app options, like o for options, b for browser, l for calendar, c for contacts, t for tasks, u for calculator, p for phone logs, and others. also there are hotkeys within apps like the browser (i zoom in, o zoom out)
