I am a total newbie to BB. what i would like to know is " How do you type in a string of numbers in a text message without having to hold down the alt key?" :confused:
Hold the Alt key down and press the left Shift key.
You should see a number icon in the upper right hand corner of the screen.

Alt+Left Shift --> NumLock
Alt+Righ Shift --> Caps Lock
Hitting either Shift key afterwards releases whichever lock (Num or Caps) in effect.
