i firmly believe hybrids suck. it could definitely be it
See whether you have the right calender selected under Menu - options - advanced options - Default Services. If not, select the correct one and the entries will be displayed on the home screen.

Sometimes a battery pull helps. I've found that hidden today themes don't work right sometimes but sort themselves out after a day or so ;)
