    Hi Guys.

I love my 9780. I really do. I got it weeks before it was officially launched. I have used it flawlessly for years. Instead of hopping over to the Q10, I'm thinking, when the 9780 retires, to try the 9790. I know it's OS 7 VS my OS 6. I know it has a touch screen.

I'm wondering, did anyone here upgrade from the 9780 to the 9790? What did you think? Worth the upgrade?

    Thanks in advance.

Why not wait for q5? I think it's kinda useless to switch to 9790 in 2013

Having used a 9700 and a 9790 I'd say don't bother with the 9790. Take the plunge for the Q10 and leave BBOS behind you.

OS7 on a 9790 isn't a natural feeling or nice user experience. The screen is too small to make touch useful for anything other than prodding the occasional button to select something. The keys of the keyboard are so close together that for any one who didn't have tiny hands typing is tedious. The 9790 is one of those models where I struggle to see where it fits in the OS 7 range. It's like a 9900 that shrunk in the wash and is only the right size for children's hands.

    It's not easy to say.
I'd also rather jump to the Q10, because OS10 is the new plattform for the next decade and Blackberry's future.
All developers are also more focused on the new plattform.

But if you are happy with the legacy OS the 9790 is a great choice.
If you are not that kind of multimedia-user and more that "typical email guy" the big advantage is that OS7.X still is connected to BIS-Server, which means you still have the data compression you are used to.

Further pros 9790 over the 9780:
-faster CPU (especially great for web browsing)
-OS 7 (bit more costumisable) with more updates
-the touchscreen (which I don't wanna miss again)
    -slimmer and lighter
    -more RAM for apps
    -NFC

    Cons 9790 considering 9780:
-the 9780 has the bigger battery (also better batterylife)
    -no improvements considering the camera
-maybe it's too thin if you liked the 9780 formfactor

But if you really want a power horse, then I'd take the Q10.
    It's a blackberry on red bull with a 2100mAh.
All specs are by far over the 9790/9780.
And the "lack" of BIS integration means no more data compression, but more speed on the Internet.

I personal still love my 9790 and still take my time to upgrade, because I'm still happy with it.

But as I wrote above, if I were still on the 9780 I'd skip OS 7.X

    It depends on your needs.

Thanks for that awesome comparison. I guess there comes a time when one must say goodbye to BIS. I was considering holding on for another 2 years by using my well-worn 9780 through August (I pre-payed my Simple Mobile account through August), and then hopping on the 9790 for another 15 or so months and THEN moving on up to a Q10. However, I think you may have convinced me to ditch those plans and jump right on a Q10 this September.
Thanks again for the awesome recap.

Agreed. And it seems foolish to spend money and time going to an intermediate Berry for a year, learning OS7, then ditching that and going to a 10. Might as well go 10 and get it over with.

My 9780 has a little life yet, so I'll milk it some more. Then jump on the Q10 Express.

Wow. This was a helpful thread to me.

    Thanks again guys.

I had the 9700 and then 9790. Then touch screen and better OS were great. The browser could load websites without a crash.

All that said, I got the z the day it was released in Canada and sold by 9790 to my cousin.

Liked 9790 but love z. Wish I could buy a Q as well!

    It's depending on your needs!

OS 7.1 devices are very cheap since BlackBerry 10 and require very less data because of BIS.

If you don't like to spend a lot of money 9790 is a great device. Maybe you can get a used BlackBerry 7.1 in great condition for very little money and switch to bb10 later this year or early next year. I'm sure you will have more choices on devices and even apps then.

its definitely a worthy upgrade, in the end, it really depends on your usage.

OS6 and OS7 are similar overall, the biggest advantage for me is the web browser, its actually usable on bbos7 and fast.

i like the touch screen for browsing/scrolling/zooming in out, even with the small screen, it works.

the 9790 is superior to 9780, except for the battery life, no phones comes close to 9700/9780 in that regard. (that ive owned anyways).

    good luck with your decision.

    我觉得不要换9790,划不来,你可以直接尝试q10啊,毕竟9790的系统版本目前也不能升 级啊

Can't honestly see the point of upgrading to an end-of-life OS7 device now that BB10 devices are here.

Unless you're really stuck in your ways on BBOS or you absolutely depend on BIS for reduced data usage when roaming then move on to BB10. Buying OS7 now is just delaying the inevitable for a couple of years at best.

And quite on the contrary to previous posts: I do see the point of going to OS 7.1 instead of jumping to OS 10
But if it is really the choice you need to make, then I would try to talk you to 9900 in place of 9790. It does feel great, and the keyboard is much better. The screen is glass, so does not gets scratched so easily as 9790. The only weak point I see is the camera.
