I'm looking for a modified back cover for the Bold that doesn't quiet the ringer so bad. Or maybe just something I can do to it.

you know you can make the ringer louder, right?
Yeah. I've got it on loud and i have the audioboost enabled. It's still difficult to hear unless I've got the back cover off then it's much louder. I've read that upgrading the OS might help. Is this true and which do u recommend?
There are tons of threads here regarding the low volume problem that some people have with the Bold. It has nothing to do with the OS, it's a design flaw with the speakers, apparently the contacts aren't seated properly. Some people have simply put a piece of paper inside the back cover and that solved the problem for them, but I would think physically fixing the contacts would be the way to go. I don't have the volume problem so I have no idea how to do that though.
I had this problem. Att replaced with no problem, its a design flaw. Got a new handset fedexed overnight. Give em a call

If you are using you own mp3 ringtones, the is a free util called MP3GAIN that allows you to tweak the base volume of said MP3. This will make them by default, louder.

Hmm........my bold isn't as loud as it was before but it's still pretty loud, or maybe i'm just going deaf.
If you have access to audio editing software you can increase the audible alert by compressing the audio then normalising it back to 100%
This will help you get maximum volume from your audio.
However, with regards the speaker problem, I had one with a very quiet speaker so I had it replaced under insurance and the new one was much louder.
