Anyone else notice T-mobile has NO 3G phones with UMA? Is there a technical problem T-MO can't solve? And does this mean the new 9700 (Driftwood?) coming out will be w/o UMA?

I have read on several posts the 3G/UMA issue. I am confused simply because looking at the the picture posted of the T-Mobile 9700 (settings>about), it reads "3G, Wi-Fi", therefore it should work on UMA.
Please correct me if I am wrong.
Thank you all for your time.

The latter :)
the 3G/UMA conflict has been in the know for a while and there has been no word whether it has been resolved yet. I would say it hasn't since tmo jus released the TP2 and its supposed to be one of their most powerful/versatile devices as of yet. They've packed everything into it: 3G, Wifi etc, but no UMA. Sure its a WM phone but so is the tmo Shadow and it does have UMA. If they had found a fix for the problem they would've definitely have included it in the TP2. Having wifi in a device doesn't necessarily mean it'll have UMA and if the 9700 was to come out anytime soon, it probably wont have UMA technology. That's simply my observation though i could be very wrong and would happily stand corrected since i think UMA is very useful, and often necessary for many of us.
I hope it comes out with uma. It sounds really useful. My current BB doesn't have uma and this would be a nice feature to have. I might hold out then for another phone if the onyx doesn't have tmo's signature uma.
I personally don't mind giving up UMA for 3G. Where I am located and explore, there is no loss of coverage. Also, since I have the loyalty plan, I am not worried about racking up minutes :)
The tmobile 3g network was just launched a couple of months back. I am pretty sure the 9700 is going to be WiFi and 3g.

As a frustrated tmo customer living in the NY market, I can tell you with absolute certainty that NYC was the first market tmo launched their 3G service in, and that was May of last year - so that was a year and a quarter ago...and STILL no confirmed date for the 3G BB we're all waiting for!
I will tell you from everything I've heard the 9700will release in sept..is gonna support wifi/3g and UMA calling.....great news for us tmobilers.....
The motorola morrison is supposedly going to be 3G and have UMA. So maybe they got it resolved. Im waiting for Driftwood also.
i hope so. this would be very good news. itd be nice to have uma with my blackberry
i agree. i really hope they get it working before they release it
