I want to upgrade to a Bold 9700 but I have a few questions about the upcoming 21Mbps HSPA+ in mid-2010 for T-Mo. From my understanding, the current Bold 9700 from T-mo will not work with this network being that it lack the hardware for the 2100 signal. So my questions are.

Will an Unlocked AT&T version of the Bold 9700 work on T-Mo now?

Will the AT&T Bold 9700 be able to use 3G on T-Mo now if I have 3G coverage in my area now?

Will it be able to use the new 21Mbps HSPA+ network when it goes live later next year?

I have a friend whose wife got the Bold 9700 from AT&T but she did not like it. She got an iPhone, go figure. So I am looking to buy this from him if it will work on T-Mo.

    Thanks

So you are saying that an unlocked Bold 9700 from AT&T will not work on T-Mo?

I prefer the black and white of things. The Tmo and AT&T 9700's DO NOT support the same 3G networks. If the OP buys a AT&T 9700 and plans to get 3G on Tmo, he will not be happy because it can not and will not happen. Period.

My question is will the AT&T version work on T-Mo, not the other way around.
    I finally found the answer:

    GSM 850 / GSM 900 / GSM 1800 / GSM 1900
    WCDMA 850 / WCDMA 1900 / WCDMA 2100
    (T-Mobile USA version has WCDMA 1700 & 900 in place of WCDMA 850 & 1900)

That sucks because then the T-Mo Bold 9700 will not be able to use the new 2100 coming next year.

    Thanks for the help.

    Here's the black and white:

    - T-Mobile 3G uses the 2100/1700Mhz bands
    - ATT 3G uses the 1900/850Mhz bands

    - T-Mobile 9700 supports 2100/1700/900Mhz
    - ATT 9700 supports 2100/1900/850/800Mhz

Both devices support the 2100Mhz 3G band. Yes, most likely an AT&T 9700 will not get 3G coverage on a T-Mobile network. Yes the T-Mobile 9700 will get 3G if your area currently has the T-Mobile 3G network deployed. No the 9700 does not support HSPA speeds above 3.6mbps

Tmobile uses it own 3G bands. An unlocked ATT version of the phone will work fine but only use Edge for data tranfer. It won't use any 3g. So it's a very nice 8900 at this point.
