Hiya there. I'm new but I didn't find the right place to introduce myself, sorry.
I got a weird problem with my BB Bold: I installed japanese support and everything is fine, but there is a glitch with Japanese font in the Internet Browser. I thought it was a conflict between Japanese and Chinese fonts (I installed both support first), so I uninstalled Chinese support, and this glitch remains. I figure it is because I just uninstalled the Chinese input system, and not the font, though I can't find a way to "delete" that font. Here are two screenshots I made from Amazon.co.jp and Yahoo.co.jp.
On the first one for example, タイトル and 時計 are displayed with different fonts.
On the second one for example, if you look at 天気, the 天's font is different from the 気's one.
I hope someone will be able to help me and sorry for my bad English. Thank you.
Hmm, I can't say I know what your font problem is.
If you were on an older OS I was going to maybe recommend you upgrade the OS, but .221 isn't very old I don't think, compared to the newer .282. By the way, your English is great! "Sorry for my bad English" -- what are you talking about? lol
Do you have any other browser apps installed on your Bold besides the default Blackberry Browser? Maybe a different browser will handle the fonts differently and help you out?
I have the default browser I use with Wi-Fi and WAP connections, and a "custom one" from my carrier, but this one is merely the same but with WAP only.
Maybe try downloading a 3rd party browser such as "Bolt" or "Opera Mini". I've heard good and bad things about both of those, but you can always keep your default browser too and switch between the two (or three if you, for some reason, chose to use all three browsers).
I have Bolt on my Bold right now. Let me open it up and try amazon again and see what it looks like.
edit: Okay, Bolt does not look pretty. The Japanese font isn't showing up for me, it's just blank spaces. I see an option in the browser that says "Install fonts" though, so maybe I need to go somewhere and install a Japanese font support for the Bolt Browser, who knows? I certainly don't.
Wonder if you can figure it out? Or I wonder if Opera Mini is less complicated? I don't have it on my bb.
I finally solved this problem.
As I thought, it was a font issue : I checked "Details" of all Chinese inputs and noticed a font that wasn't uninstalled (net_rim_font_chinese_hong_kong). Then I've been looking for a way to manually delete it and found "JavaLoader". I used this program with "BlackBerry Master Control Program" (easier than command lines...), deleted the font, and restarted the berry. Now, I've no more problem nicely displaying Japanese with the Browser.
But thanks anyway Jonneh.
I hope this could help people with the same problem.
I hope it helps anyone else looking for the answer as well.
Strange that the Chinese font was messing up the Japanese, as I have the Chinese and the Japanese and they both work just fine - maybe it's because I only have the simplified pinyin one and no others? How many did you have installed? Well, I'm glad you found the answer you were looking for
At first I installed everything... I thought it was needed to display all pages without problem. lol
Now I know the problem, I could try to install Chinese support again, and see what happens. Do you think simplified Pinyin is enough to display all Chinese pages ?
