i dont exactly understand all this talk about 3g, i understand its used for internet but i read some stuff i didnt quite understand. can someone help me run down the difference in having 3g and not? thanks
Basically it's faster data service than edge, and you can use voice and data at the same time (Be on a phone call and browsing the internet, as an example)

Also, 3G signal penetrates better than 2G.
For instance, in our basement, I will have full signal on 3G while my wife's 8900 will only have 1 bar on 2G. According to Signal-Loc, the two towers are the same distance to our house and 25k apart, so no advantage there.

Because it wasn't explained yet, I'll add one thing. Different Networks (CDMA vs. GSM i.e. Verizon vs AT&T) have different 3G networks. 3G is not the network type, it refers to the 3rd Generation (progression) Voice/Data network. For CDMA it's EV-DO and for GSM it's HSDPA (I am most likely wrong on that but it's close).
But the only thing you need to know is that it's faster and a better signal...however it does use more battery power.
