Basically it's faster data service than edge, and you can use voice and data at the same time (Be on a phone call and browsing the internet, as an example)

Also, 3G signal penetrates better than 2G.

For instance, in our basement, I will have full signal on 3G while my wife's 8900 will only have 1 bar on 2G. According to Signal-Loc, the two towers are the same distance to our house and 25k apart, so no advantage there.

Wikipedia has a lot of other information on the differences as well.

Its a different type of radio signal. In case you didn't know, that's how all phones get "signal" lol. Oh and btw its not just data but voice too.

3G is like having a fast Home PC internet, but on your mobile device.

3G is faster then Edge Network .... but only by 25% to 50% faster, but you will notice the difference.

AND on 3G you cna talk and browse at the sametime..... can't do that on anything else on a mobile.

Actually you can do that on 2G/WiFi as well.

If your carrier supports it, you can make video phone calls on 3G.

Because it wasn't explained yet, I'll add one thing. Different Networks (CDMA vs. GSM i.e. Verizon vs AT&T) have different 3G networks. 3G is not the network type, it refers to the 3rd Generation (progression) Voice/Data network. For CDMA it's EV-DO and for GSM it's HSDPA (I am most likely wrong on that but it's close).

But the only thing you need to know is that it's faster and a better signal...however it does use more battery power.

On the 8310 you can't but on the Bold (3G) you certainly can.

It is not necessarily a better signal. It all depends on what frequency 3G is running in your area.
