OK, for those of you that have this phone already, can you tell me if you are getting a better signal than with your previous phone on Sprint? I currently am using a Curve 8530 and my signal strength in my house sucks and am hoping that the Bold will possibly be better.

    The antenna is the same...

Either a OS update with a new radio file will help or you and others have tower issues..

I was afraid of that. I wonder if I may have to switch carriers or try to get an Airave. My Rumor missed calls constantly but I figured it was just because the phone was crap.

Have you contacted your carrier to discuss these issues?

Not yet. Well, I did when I had my Rumor and they updated my PRL and some other stuff but it didn't help. I just got this Curve a week ago and I was hoping it would remedy the problem. So far, the Curve has missed one call where it doesn't even ring and goes right to voicemail but most calls from my living room are full of static. My Rumor would miss about 2 calls a day so the Curve is "better" but we are wanting to ditch our landline in a couple of months and just go with our cell phones so this could become a big deal.

Ya sounds like a carrier and Tower issue.

I would check with them for possible solutions or switching carriers.... And hopefully they provide a better connection...

    Keep us posted...

I've heard that Sprint is pretty good about offering a free Airave for instances like mine so it can't hurt to try. If they can't help I'll look in to other carriers which would bum me out because I really do like Sprint and my husband's 23% discount.

I just updated PRL and got 65000 on the Bold with Sprint. I had signal issues with the official Sprint OS on my Tour but the leaked 643 was awesome. Now with this new model its OK but not great. After the PRL update it was much better, but still hoping for some leaked OS's and updates. Just 'cause.

Please forgive the stupid question.... but where do I find my signal strength? And what is considered good or average?

    Katrina,
I had the same issue with Sprint and a low signal at home. I could barely make or recieve calls. I called Sprint and they sent me an Air rave at no charge (and no monthly fee). It works great. I always have a full signal now. I now have a better signal inside my house than anywhere else.

That is such great news! I'm going to try to call them tomorrow and see what they can do. I really want to stay with Sprint. I know they have a bad reputation but I am 100% happy with them and have had them for 6 years.

I am having major signal issues with the 9650 that I didn't have on the 8330. Sprint is the carrier.

I went from an 8530 to the new bold and the signal seems to be consistent between both phones. the only problem is a couple of times today it went to ev??? couldnt do anything and it it wouldnt let me turn the network on or off it was just stuck.Had to do a couple battery pulls.

Just wanted to update that and tell you guys that I called Sprint and they split the cost of the Airave with me so I paid $50 for it and they are giving me free monthly service for it. It is supposed to be shipped out today and I would receive it in about 7 days so we'll see if that helps.

No issues here, but i've never had Sprint before... bars sometime appear low, but the data speeds still are great (checked while tethering), and have yet to drop a call or lose signal (unless i'm in a concrete bunker type of building)

this 9650 continues the great signal quality i've experiences with BB's... you want poor signal, try HTC for a while...

Its a possibility, but I had a tour last year that went through the same thing.

My 9650 doesn't get as good of a signal as my 8330. Upgraded to .692, helped the battery life, not the reception

Though my signal is not consistently as good as AT&T, (my g/f has a 9700) and I just bumped to the 9650, I have not had any issues with signal. 1 time it drop to something else but 99.9% I do not go lower than 3 bars on 1XEV. Media is great on this phone.
