So I am in a very secluded area in upstate ny. I am getting 3G, but then it switches to EDGE, GPRS, and GSM. What's the deal with the last two?

GPRS = You can use the phone, send and receive email, PIN messages, text
messages, and multimedia messages and use the browser. (Will not be high speed)

GSM = You can use the phone and send and receive text / MMS. No data
dependent functions will work (Email, BBM, Browser, etc... )

also just to note, if any of those are lower case, like gprs, gsm, edge, 3g you will not be getting data either... phone calls and SMS will work but for you to be connected to data they have to be capitalized like EDGE, GPRS, 3G... however capital GSM, will not give you data either

ok let me rephrase, it will not be connected to blackberry data... if you are using TCP/APN settings then it may work using a 3rd party browser...

    Simply put:

    GPRS or 3G  = BIS/BES service is active

GSM/gprs or 3G = Inactive service (normal data plan)

    Ah that makes more sense. I don't have BIS/BES, I use T-zones
