Thanks to all you of for replying, I decided to purchase one of the extended batteries. Is there any tips anyone could give me about using the battery to get the best performance from it?
I've owned this battery for quite a few months and I recommend following the directions included in the box for the first few charges to train the battery:
- Please charge for eight hours before using it for the first time. Performance will improve after 5 to 6 full charges
- The battery must be charged for an extra 4 to 5 hours after the on-screen indicator shows full to achieve maximum battery capacity every cycle
- Charge the battery AFTER the on-screen indicator turns red or when the low battery warning appears.
There is now a standard extended battery available for the Bold 9900, Bxt 3150mah available on Amazon.
I bought this battery for more battery power as the original which was only lasting 12 hours with moderate use. This battery lasts 27 hours before it reaches critical levels this is with light. With moderate use it only lasts 17 hours. I have also adopted the following to conserve battery life:
Switched to 2G
Dimmed backlight to 10%
Turned off vibrate alert
Turned off GPS when not in use
Turned off bluetooth when not in use
Turned off wifi when not in use
Exit from apps after use (use menu key to completely close the app)
Turned off the battery monitor feature
Lowered all notification/alert volumes to maximum 3
Deleted unused apps (delete the social feeds app as it causes a memory leak and may also affect battery life. Deleting unused apps and languages greatly increases your application memory free space)
The battery is good enough for a standard size battery. I had been expecting slightly better performance of at least 30 hours but as long as it gets me through a very long day its ok as I'm ok charging every night. The great thing about the battery is that it is standard size so that you can still keep the original back cover. There is no need for an extended battery with a back that makes the phone stick out and makes it bulky. This phone is so beautiful to look at and to hold that it would be a shame to spoil its slimline look. Also the NFC feature is located on the back cover so changing the back cover would mean losing this feature.
To get the most out of this battery it is essential that you fully charge the battery before use and then for the first few days let the battery drain completely (to orange indicator). This will enable the proper caliberation of the battery and the device and enable the battery to perform at its optimum levels giving you the longest possible output.
I'm slightly disappointed because I've had to disable so many features to conserve battery power and still not getting as much juice as I should be getting on a 3150mah battery (I had a 3000mah battery with Bold 9000 and it lasted all day with still 80% charge left, however that was a much bulkier battery with an extended back door). If I was a heavy user this battery would be completely useless. I don't think the battery is the capacity stated as it is not performing to the standard one would expect of a 3150mah battery. Only useful if you are a light to moderate user.
Update:
I have now gone back to the original battery and adopted the battery saving methods listed above. The battery after 12 hours still had 45% left. It will probably then last around 22 hours on constant use. This is adequate for anyone and there is no need to use a spare or an extended battery. It all boils down to knowing how to use the device properly to get the most out of it.
I have had the Seidio on my phone for a few days now. It does add some bulk to the phone. I also ordered the surface case that fits over the battery. I'm a very heavy user with phone calls, BES email, and web use. The OEM battery was not lasting me through the day as I work long hours and am in the field a lot. Charging was a pain. The new battery so far looks impressive interms of the life I'm getting. I think for power users, it's the way to go. My battery reads a constant 66 degrees as well.
Regards,
Your battery will always have that 66 degree reading because the phone is set for the standard battery only. Mine shows 66 constantly also......
