I contacted rogers because i wanted to ***** them out for changing their hup again. Surprisingly they said i could get an upgrade under the old rules(24 months), and not the new 30 month program. it only makes sense because i am sitting around 26 months anyway.

So i told the rep that i wanted to have my upgrade in Aug since that is when i expect the new lineup to roll out. i originally said i wanted the 9810 because i love the extra screen on my torch. She checked and said she doesnt see a date for the 9810. I then asked for the 9900. This time she came back after a short hold and told me the computer shows Aug 3rd.

i will wait to see the 9810 and the bold together before making my final choice but i thought id share my experience with you.

i make no promises that the rep was right. if you want to call rogers go ahead lol.

Oh and before someone asks how i am upgrading my torch i am not really. i have two lines, one my wifes bb and my bb. i staggered the start time approximately a year so i can go more upgrades. Technically this is her bold 9000 i am upgrading.

in truth i always get the new phone and she gets my hand me downs

Interesting. Would be great if true.

I'm still only a year (and a little bit) into my 3-year renewal, but I had no trouble getting a HUP after only one year last year through retentions, so I hope it's the same this time.

May be with a pinch of sugar. Just remembered that BB Fan night is on Aug 3rd. So, there may be a correlation here...will be happy for you if it turns out as said.

If it would be released 3th of August, then why didn't they already give that release date? Well i hope for it, i just order the 9900 and they said the first or second week of August. So it is still possible, thanks anyway.

Ah...I would be thrilled if August 3rd at their fan night thing they just said 'surprise...9900 is now for sale!'

Let's hope. But realistically RIM has never been one for product launch surprises

I just called them back. They have to be wrong! She told me the 9900 is $349.99 on a 3 yr term. $574.99 to buy the phone out right.

I again asked for the Torch 2 and this person found pricing on it. She had the 9810 at $439 on a 3 yr term, and $624.99 out right.

That is a lot of $$. In the past when Ive rushed out to get the latest bb its been around $199.

............... Who would pay 400 and sign a 3 year? If that's true, wow Rogers, you've hit a new low. The only point of them subsidizing the price of the phone is to get new subscribers or resign current subscribers.. Not sure how they'll do that with that pricing. There's no way.

i think those are just placeholder pricing.... unless rogers REALLY does not want to sell these devices.

also by deduction these phones that are on roger ready for preorder are priced as follows:

    HTC EVO 3D (No term is 599.99) - 3 yr is 149.99
    LG Optimus 3D (No term is 479.99) - 3 yr is 99.99

i think bb will follow similar scale/pricing

There will be an announcement next week. Nothing indicating a release on August 3rd though.

A simple test: call Rogers. Ask them about the 9900. They will tell you it is currently unavailable. Ask about release date. They will tell you there will be an announcement soon. (I don't know how people are getting agents to tell them "release dates" and prices, that is beyond me!)

I have a hunch that August 3rd AKA BB7FN will be a launch date and we MIGHT see the phone 1-2 weeks later in stores.

It is very possible the launch date is on August 3rd and the release date is probably the same as Bell, on August 17th or 18th. I can't see Rogers holding back on the release date since they hate Bell with a passion. Bell has been very aggressive with announcing the devices they will be carrying. Rogers have a tendency to do a BB launch party for a flagship device and it's usually released about 2 weeks afterwards.

But also, if the launch date is so close, shouldn't we see some dummys rumor like we did with Verizon?

Why would Rogers have dummys in their stores when they haven't even officially announced the 9900? Once they announce it, we will be seeing a lot of dummys, not just the 9900. J/K.

I don't see August 3rd as the release date, due to the fact that BB7 Fan Night is the same day. I just don't see RIM releasing this phone on a carrier before their event even happens. Now I could see it launch on Aug 4th or later and Aug 3rd be the launching party. I just think it would be odd to have an event for a device that is already out there even if it is the same day, but who knows, RIM does do some confusing things.

Aug 3 could be the preorder date.

and BB7 Fan Night being in Toronto could make it possible a Canadian carrier is the first out of the gate. But who knows, we'll see.

RIM doesn't release the phone, it's all in the carriers hands now. I could see the carriers launching the phones at an event like this.
